Bundesliga Matchday 26 Betting Preview and Tips

The Bundesliga is the first of Europe’s top five leagues to get back on the field and the football world could not be happier. The league will undoubtedly be front and centre (probably for the first time) for lovers of the beautiful game around the globe who’ve been starved of top-class action.

Below, we go through Matchday 26 of the Bundesliga to help you with your bet slips. If you would like a review on the season so far, read this.

Saturday 16 May

15:30 – RB Leipzig (1.30) v Freiburg (9.50)

Third-placed RB Leipzig are well placed to mount a genuine title challenge and the match against Freiburg provided the perfect opportunity. Leipzig are on an unbeaten run of 7 matches across all competitions (4 W, 3 D). They are also unbeaten at home for the last 12 matches across competitions. There are usually goals in their matches, 18 of the 25 matches saw over 2.5 goals.

Freiburg are safely placed in eighth spot and beat Leipzig (2-1) the last time the two sides met, although they are yet to beat Leipzig at home (3 L, 1 D).

Best Bet: RB Leipzig win and over 2.5 goals at 1.80

15:30 – Hoffenheim (2.10) v Hertha Berlin (3.50)

Hoffenheim will back themselves against the struggling Hertha Berlin at home having beaten them in their last two head to heads (home and away). Their Bundesliga form is worrisome, they have not won a league match in 5 (3 L, 2 D).

Hertha Berlin will hope the break was used to regroup in a season that was spiralling. Their recent Bundesliga form has seen them win only 2 matches in 8 (3 L, 3 D). There could be goals in this match with both clubs averaging over 3 goals in total per match.

Best Bet: Hoffenheim win at 2.10

15:30 – Dusseldorf (2.15) v Paderborn (3.30)

A relegations crap as Dusseldorf (in a relegation play-off spot) host bottom club Paderborn. Dusseldorf desperately needs points as they trail Mainz by 4 points. In their last 5 Bundesliga matches, they’ve won 1, 1 loss and 3 draws. Their home is also poor and reflects their league standing, winning 3 in 12 this season and losing half of those.

Paderborn are rooted to the bottom and are trying to snap a 4-match losing streak in the league. They haven’t won a league match in 6, last win was against Freiburg in January. A positive for them is that they beat Dusseldorf 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. Both clubs also average over 3 goals in total per-match.

Best Bet: BTTS at 1.66

15:30 – Dortmund (1.95) v Schalke (5.95)

On a 4-match winning streak in the league, second-placed Dortmund welcome Schalke who are in sixth and 14 points behind them. Dortmund have the leagues best attack (73 goals) and home record.

Schalke have not won a league match in 8 (4 L, 4 D) but they can take some confidence as they beat Dortmund 4-2 the last time they visited. They have also won 2 out of the last 4 head to heads (1 D, 1 L).

Best Bet: Dortmund win and over BTTS at 2.70

15:30 – Augsburg (3.15) v Wolfsburg (2.30)

Augsburg are in 13th place but could easily be dragged into a relegations crap if their bad run in the league continues, they have not won in 5 matches (4 L, 1 D) – their matches this season average 3.5 goals per match.

Wolfsburg are tucked in nicely in seventh and have not lost a Bundesliga match in 6 (3 W, 3 D). Wolfsburg have a decent record against Augsburg – in their 4 most recent meetings, they won 2 and drew 2. The last match ended in a 0-0 drew earlier this season.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 1.83

18:30 – Eintracht Frankfurt (3.00) v Monchengladbach (2.35)

While six points clear of the relegation, Eintracht Frankfurt can easily be dragged into an unwanted scrap if they continue their form – they’ve lost 3 league games in a row. Encouraging is their home record, they have the sixth-best in the league having won 6 out of 12.

Monchengladbach were the early pacesetters in the Bundesliga before their season was quickly derailed. They are still in fourth place and beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-2 in the reverse fixture. However, in their last 2 visits to Frankfurt, they lost 2-0 and drew 1-1.

Best Bet: Draw at 3.40

Sunday 17 May

15:30 – Cologne (2.00) v Mainz (3.60)

Cologne sits in tenth place with a decent recent home record having won 3 out of the last 4 home games. You can also expect goals in this match as both clubs have seen over 2,5 goals in at least 75% of their Bundesliga matches.

Mainz are just above the relegation zone but have a 4 point buffer. Their recent league form has been indifferent with 2 wins in their last 5 and just 1 loss and 2 draws. They also beat Cologne 3-1 in the last head to head.

Best Bet: BTTS and Cologne win at 3.10

18:00 – Union Berlin (13.75) v Bayern Munich (1.21)

Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 12 league games and top the table after 25 games. They also have the best attack with 73 goals as well as the joint best defence, conceding only 26. Of the 25 matches played by Bayern this season, 21 of them saw over 2.5 goals.

Union Berlin are up against to walk away with points, they are in 11th spot in the league table and have had a mixed run of form in their last 5 games (2 W, 2 L, 1 D). Bayern beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Best Bet: BTTS at 2.10

Monday 18 May

20:30 – Werder Bremen (4.45) v Bayer Leverkusen (1.71)

Werder Bremen could be relegated for the first time from the Bundesliga if they do not sort out their disappointing form. They have not won a Bundesliga in 6 attempts (5 L, 1 D). They are also joint-tied for the least prolific attack in the league having scored 27 goals in 24 games.

Leverkusen, on the other hand, have been in seriously good form in 2020 – in their last 15 competitive matches across all competitions, Leverkusen have won 12, lost 2 and drawn 1. Their turnaround from a poor start has put them just 2 points behind a Champions League spot which is more than enough encouragement. The reverse fixture earlier in the season ended 2-2 while the last time these two met with Bremen as the hosts, Leverkusen won 6-2 in 2018.

Best Bet: Leverkusen win and over 2.5 goals at 2.30
