Prepare for an exhilarating weekend ahead as we unveil meticulously researched horse racing tips for the upcoming races!
Fairview (Friday)
Race 1 – Coral Creek
Coral Creek has been disappointing in his four outings so far, offering little return for those who have backed him. In his most recent race over 1400m at this track, he ran prominently before finishing a modest fourth. However, being by Global View, the drop back to 1200m could be in his favour. Facing a more suitable field today, he looks to have a better chance of making a breakthrough.
Race 5 – Cruise Control
Cruise Control displayed impressive pace in his recent victory in the Non-Black Type Speedsters Stakes. With two wins, a second, and a third from eight runs over this distance, he’s proven his ability to compete. The Querari gelding is yet to be beaten when partnered with jockey Luyolo Mxothwa and given today’s competition, there’s every reason to believe he can maintain that perfect record.
Turffontein (Saturday)
Race 1 – The Octagon
The Octagon, trained by Alec Laird, has secured back-to-back third-place finishes over this distance in KZN. As a son of Ideal World, he seems well suited to today’s opposition. With the experienced Gavin Lerena taking the reins, he’s poised to break through and claim victory.
Race 6 – White Pearl
White Pearl didn’t show her true ability in her last outing in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint, but she’s capable of much more. After an 18-week layoff, she returns to kick off her new season. The daughter of Danon Platina has an impressive record over this course and distance, with a win and two seconds from three attempts. If she can reproduce her best form, she has a solid chance of getting back to winning ways.
Durbanville (Saturday)
Race 2 – Cork Bay
Cork Bay made an encouraging start to his career over this course and distance. He could have finished even closer to the winner, but a lack of space at the 300m mark forced him to be switched. Additionally, it was noted that the son of Rafeef choked up during the race. With that debut run under his belt and likely improvement to come, he’s one to watch and could well make his mark with a victory this time.
Race 5 – Wild Applause
Wild Applause made an eye-catching debut over 1250m on this track, staying on well after racing just behind the leaders. It’s worth mentioning that the third-placed horse from that race has since gone on to win. Being by Vercingetorix, the step up to 1400m should suit her perfectly, and with the expected progress from her first run, she looks hard to beat this time around.
Greyville (Sunday)
Race 4 – Freddy Slater
Freddy Slater took a big step forward in his last outing, finishing a strong second over 1600m on this track. He closed the race with an impressive late run, catching the eye with his strong finish. As a son of Royal Mo, he’s clearly improving with each start, and with a smooth trip today, he looks well-placed to come out on top.
Race 5 – Pray For Rain
Cats Pajamas put in a strong performance to claim victory in the Grade 2 Worldpool Umkhomazi Stakes last time out. Several runners from that race have since gone on to win, boosting the strength of that form. As the best-weighted horse in this field, he’s well-positioned to kick off the new season with another win.
