Bundesliga 2019/2020 Season So Far and Preview
The Bundesliga will be the fist of Europe’s top five leagues to restart after the German government accepted their plan to return to action on May 16. All matches will take place behind closed doors as the rest of the football world looks on with acute interest to see how the Bundesliga manages the Covid-19 situation. They are the football world’s case study.
Below we give you a quick summary of the Bundesliga 2019/2020 season so far and we provide the context to the title race, relegation and the top players this campaign.
The Title Race
Unlike the Premier League and Ligue 1, the title race in the Bundesliga is far from over as Bayern Munich face strong challenges from Borrusia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and even Borussia Monchengladbach. There is a four-point gap between the top four in the German’s top flight.
After a rocky start, Bayern Munich are now primed for their eighth consecutive Bundesliga title after a sensational run of form under Hansi Flick. He was the assistant to the sacked Niko Kovac, Flick was appointed as interim boss only, but he has proved his worth with Bayern now topping the league table.

Borussia Dortmund are Bayern’s closest rivals currently, as usual, they have been scoring freely with Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland leading the charge, however, they are still conceding goals that’s why they average just over four goals per game so that’s why they are always candidates for the ‘Over 3.5 goals’ market.
In third is the impressive RB Leipzig under young manager Julian Nagelsmann, the clubs season stats are encouraging with the defence (26 goals conceded) and attack (62 goals scored) in good health and suggests they have the capabilities to mount a solid title challenge. They also progressed to the next stage of the Champions League so the club generally speaking is in great health.
Meanwhile, another point back is Gladbach in fourth, they were the season’s early pace-setters with some sensational and eye-catching form. However their title challenge has come apart, they have dropped as many points in their last nine matches as their opening 16 and have failed won back-to-back games in 2020.
The Relegation Battle
Paderbornrare poised to go straight back to Bundesliga 2, while Werder Bremen are facing only a second-ever relegation from the Bundesliga, and first since 1981. They are the seasons biggest disappointments having finished eighth last season,
Fortuna Dusseldorf sare in a relegation play-off place but are four points ahead of the bottom two mentioned above. However, for those clubs from twelfth place Eintracht Frankfurt, Mainz, Hertha Berlin and Augsburg are all flirting with the relegation play-off place.
Top Players This Season
Youngsters Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho have been tearing up the Bundesliga this season. Werner has been attracting attention from the likes of Liverpool is on 21 goals and seven assists. Sancho, another hot property among Europe’s elite was the first to reach double figures in both in goals (15) and assists (14) in Europe’s top five leagues.

Both players attempt to win the player of the season award will probably be foiled by Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski, the Polish striker leads the golden boot race by four goals and it would take a lot for Timo Werner to stop him.

Lewandowski scored in the first 11 league games of the season and has not stopped being prolific since – he now has netted 25 goals in just 23 games. His closest challenger is Timo Werner on 21 goals.
The Bundesliga is known around the world as a league that is not afraid to throw youngsters into the deep end. Alphonso Davies, Schalke’s Suat Serdar and Leipzig summer signing Christopher Nkunku have all enjoyed breakout campaigns.
Meanwhile, starlet Kai Havertz has once again reminded everyone why he is regarded as such a special talent. The likes of Achraf Hakimi, Dayot Upamecano, Marcus Thuram make you realize the abundance of talent in the league.
The Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 season will resume from May 16th. In both leagues, the season will continue with the 26th matchday. The other matchdays will follow in the order originally scheduled.
