Bet Central’s Moments of the Weekend: 10-12 July

It was by no means a ‘normal’ sporting weekend considering we are in the midst of a pandemic but there was so much action over the weekend from cricket to Formula 1 to football.

The weekend dished up some fascinating storylines and funny moments so the team at Bet Central selected our favourites.

Windies provide a happy ending

It was an emotional Test match for a variety of reasons but on pure entertainment alone, this match was high in quality, attrition and drama. The underdog West Indies edged England in the first test in Southampton winning by four wickets. For fans all over the world, it was a treat to have cricket back on our screens and it was lovely to see Jason Holder’s men come out victorious.

Mike Atherton gets pranked live on air

You have to listen to Athers reading a tweet on club cricket results with such confidence… unfortunately for him, he was duped in front of all of us. One of the highlights of a Test match that did not lack highlights.

Premier League relegation scrappers grab WINS

What a weird weekend of Premier League football; firstly Liverpool failed to maintain their 100% record at Anfield this season but the big takeout goes to the relegation scrappers all eking out a much-needed wins and three points.

The likes of Aston Villa, Watford and Bournemouth have struggled to win matches but with only four left to save their Premier League status, they kicked into gear. Sadly, West Ham’s win over Norwich helped their survival chances but also confirmed Norwich’s relegation to the Championship.

Richie Mo’unga shows his innovation and class

In a match that was ladened with quality, Richie Mo’unga’s touch of class was a moment to indicate just how good of a match and on top of their game the Crusaders and Blues were on Saturday. Although the Crusaders won 26-15, the Blues were much better than the scoreline suggests and shows how far they’ve come in 2020. A great rugby match in these trying times.

Serie A entertainment

Serie A continues to entertain and consistently so. This is highlighted by both the Juventus v Atalanta match and Napoli v AC Milan ending in entertaining 2-2 draws. Out of nowhere, the Italian league has become the league of goals for punters.

Africa on the podium in Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton’s Austrian Grand Prix was the catalyst for a first in Formula 1 history. Stephanie Travers became the first black woman to be on a Formula 1 podium, she is an engineer with Mercedes.
