Kaizer Chiefs

There is a full round of DSTV Premiership action during the week, with matches shared across Tuesday (1) and Wednesday (4). The key fixture is between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City tonight, while Cape Town Spurs are looking to start on a new slate under new new management of Sean Connor and Vasili Manousakis.

Kaizer Chiefs v Cape Town City

Chiefs have blown hot and cold lately, with a draw, loss, and win in their last three games. They came very close to knocking Sundowns out of the MTN8 last week and showed some encouraging signs in that tie. However, they face another team that has given them problems in the past in Cape Town City. Yet, the odds back Chiefs for a win here (2.1/1), perhaps with City’s recent form in mind. The 3-1 comeback over Spurs was the first win in seven for Tinkler, a run of form that brought him some heat recently. This streak started with a 2-1 defeat v Chiefs in the MTN8, so if ever there was a game to close this recent winless chapter, this is it. It’s a fixture he also loves.

11 – Eric Tinkler has won 11 matches against Kaizer Chiefs in his coaching career, more than he has against any other PSL opponent.

Cape Town Spurs v SuperSport

The curtain has finally come down on Shaun Bartlett’s time at Cape Town Spurs, with the newly promoted sides languishing at the bottom of the table with zero points from seven. Irish coach Sean Connor will want to start on a positive note this Tuesday, as Spurs desperately need to start collecting points. A clean sheet will be a good start – Spurs’ defense has been their weakest link so far. Attacking-wise, Spurs have been decent, netting four times and averaging a healthy 12 shots per game. Those who like backing the underdog will be encouraged by that and also by the fact that SuperSport’s away record has been iffy this year.

2 – SuperSport have won 1 of their last 12 away games since 7 January (D6 L5 all comps).

Stellenbosch v TS Galaxy

Last season’s Cup meeting between the sides produced a whopping 9 goals, but it’s hard to see that happen again here. TS Galaxy’s results so far this season resemble binary code 1-0, 0-0, 1-0, 0-1, 0-1, 0-0, 1-1. As a result, they are in that strange position where they have the bluntest attack (scored 3 goals), but also the meanest defense (conceded 3 goals). One win away from home in 11 games this year points to a team content with picking up solitary points on the road, and a 0-0 or 1-1 draw here would not come as a major surprise. That said, Stellie are favoured for the win (at 2.25/1), despite their recent lack of form too.

3 – Stellies have lost three home league games in a row for the first time post-Covid. They’ve never lost 4 in a row at home since their promotion.
