Best Bets And Tips: Kenilworth and Greyville

The season draws to a close this weekend with plenty of Grade 1 action to look forward to at Greyville on Saturday before we head to Kenilworth to wrap up the weekend’s horse racing. As always, we take a look at the best bets to include in your weekend multiples.

Greyville (Saturday)

Race 4 (Thekwini Stakes) Grade 1 – Time Fo Orchids

One of the best bets on Saturday’s program comes in Race 4 in the form of the Sean Tarry-trained filly, Time Fo Orchids. The daughter of Amber Orchid finished 3rd in a Grade 2 event last time out and looks to be progressive and have some class about her. She was drawn widest of all back then and will fancy her chances now, coming from an inside draw of barrier 3.

Race 6 (Mercury Sprint) Grade 1 – Master Archie

The fastest race in the country will be much-anticipated this Saturday as the Mercury Sprint gets underway. Master Archie is the top selection here from the Paul Peter stable and gets the services of Gavin Lerena. The 3-year-old son of Rafeef is already a Grade 1 winner, trouncing his rivals in the Computaform Sprint, and should go close once again.

Race 7 (Gold Cup) Grade 3 – Nebraas

The best stayer in the country gets to defend his title in this year’s running of the Gold Cup. Nebraas is unbeaten over 3200m and looks like the class of the race. Richard Fourie will be on board the son of Vercingetorix and has won his last three starts when riding him. Sean Tarry has another runner in the race in Black Thorn, but this just seems to be the right one and a possible banker in all exotic bets.

Race 8 (Champions Cup) Grade 1 – Jet Dark

Jet Dark, with the utmost respect to the other runners in the race, does seem like one of the better bets on the card. He won this race last, is 1 from 1 over this course and distance, and finished runner-up in the Durban July. With the other Justin Snaith-trained horse, Crown Towers, in the race, the pace will be dictated to perfection, allowing Jet Dark to blast home as he does in the final 400m.

Kenilworth (Sunday)

Race 1 – Heart Stealer

Heart Stealer and Smanga Khumalo looks to be the horse and jockey combination that can start the day for punters in this first race of the afternoon. He was unlucky on debut as he had to switch and just got pipped on the line. With a clear run in transit, he should be able to win this quite confidently.

Race 3 – Last Storm

Last Storm and Richard Fourie look to be the best bet on the day. He comes into this race with good form and the extra distance in this contest should suit him perfectly. He should be able to break the maiden for the Glen Kotzen stable. The 2-year-old son of Global View, unfortunately, hung in his last start but still managed to stay on for fourth. From barrier gate 4 with Fourie in the saddle, he should be able to keep him straight to go all the way here.

Race 6 – Tipsy Tarragon

Tipsy Tarragon won well when going over this course and distance last time out. He gets Richard Fourie up from draw 2 and the pair should go be able to go from start to finish again in this contest. She meets the right type of field here and does look to be a progressive sort.

Race 8 – Dance Variety

The last race of the season sees a competitive field line-up but Dance Variety at a hefty price looks to be the value for the Adam Marcus stable. He improved well in his second start to win by a short head and a repeat of that run with Corne Offer in the irons should see him as the one to beat here.
