Top 10 Goals For The 2022 FIFA World Cup

Despite the 2022 World Cup in Qatar barging into the middle of football seasons across the globe, the players have performed to a high standard.

In 62 matches 163 goals were scored at an average of 2.62 goals per game.

In the earlier phase of the tournament, three European teams posted big wins. Spain annihilated Costa Rica 7-0, England’s sleek display against Iran resulted in a 6-2 victory, and Portugal’s Gonçalo Matias Ramos hit a hat-trick to inspire his team to a 6-1 Round of 16 wins over Switzerland.

England and France are the top scorers in the tournament, tied for 13 goals. The Three Lions played five matches compared to Les Bleus’ six games. At the bottom end of the goal-scoring table,  Wales, Tunisia, Qatar, Denmark, and Belgium only registered one goal at the tournament.

PSG teammates Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, widely regarded as the two of world’s best footballers right now are tied at five goals each for the Golden Boot award. Hot on their heels are Argentina’s Julian Alvarez and Olivier Giroud with four goals. The 36-year-old Milan forward became France’s all-time leading scorer during the tournament, overtaking Thierry Henry with 53 goals.

Enough about the statistics, the World Cup creates special moments in history, and none more so than spectacular goals. We take a look at a montage of the 10 best goals scored in the tournament so far. Bukayo Saka’s thunderous left-foot strike against Iran in the opening match lit the fuse early on in the tournament. Another left-footed gem of a goal was Messi’s effort against Mexico.
