PSL Betting Guide: PSL Penultimate Weekend

The Dstv Premiership is on the verge of its end, with teams fighting for relegation and some fighting to end in the top 8. One of the key fixtures this weekend is the battle of number 3 and 4 in the log, SuperSport United hosts Kaizer Chiefs. There are no easy fixtures, maybe a cliche, but with so much at stake, we are likely to see some close encounters this weekend. We dug up some stats to bring more context to this Dstv Prem mid-week action.

Cape Town City v Richards Bay

Richards Bay will visit a cold wet Cape Town this weekend perched rather uncomfortably at the edge of the relegation zone. It’s 12 games and four months since the Rich Boyz last saw three points and a promising season is headed towards a damp finish. One away goal in five doesn’t make for good reading, and even that away goal was in a KZN derby. City could cruise here, given how decent their defence has been at home.

11 – City have conceded 11 goals at home this season, and could set a new club record for fewest home goals conceded in a season for the club (previous best is 12).

Orlando Pirates v Sekhukhune

The Buccaneers host Sekhukhune in a preview of the upcoming Nedbank Cup final. Some have been waiting for the Riveiro bubble to burst, but the Spaniard keeps defying the odds. On Saturday, they host a Sekhukhune team that hasn’t scored in five away games, and it’s no wonder Pirates are favourites for the win. Yet, Sekhukhune won the return leg 2-0 so there could be a warning in that.

1 – Pirates have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine home games, a run stretching back to October 2022.

SuperSport United v Kaizer Chiefs

Matsatsantsa are the only team yet to lose a home game this season, and they can complete an “invincible” home season for the first time in PSL history. The visitors have just one win in six matches away from SuperSport, so it hasn’t been happy days for a while. But a lot is at stake, in particular a place in the CAF Confederations League, although SuperSport remains in the driving seat. Seven of the last eight meetings have seen both teams score here, but the onus will be on Chiefs to get the points.

Golden Arrows v AmaZulu

AmaZulu will come into this on the back of two strong results, including a come-back 2-2 draw v Sundowns. It’s one thing they share with Arrows (recently getting a point off the champions), but the head-to-head favours Arrows in the last few years.

 They’ve won three of the last six clashes, losing just one. Victory for both sides here could potentially get them into the Top8 with one game to play, so there is more to play for than just local bragging rights.
