Orlando Pirates (4th) v Kaizer Chiefs (3rd)

The weekend kicks off with the big Soweto derby, as Pirates welcome Chiefs on Saturday afternoon. It’s a 5th consecutive home league game for Pirates, but the benefits of working from home aren’t showing at the moment. Successive 0-0 draws have seen them fall to 4th place on the table. The only time Pirates have drawn three consecutive home 0-0s was in 2008, so a third 0-0 would be a rare occurrence. Yet, no PSL fixture has been drawn on more occasions than the Soweto derby, but we’ll be hoping it’s a scoring draw. Sundowns (twice) are the only team to have scored Over 1.5 goals away from Pirates since the pandemic, but there is firepower in this Chiefs side that could hurt them.

Cape Town City (8th) v Sekhukhune United (7th)

City have scored 18 goals in 19 league games this season, their lowest total at this stage of a campaign since they became a top-flight club. Our last betting guide mentioned how City were struggling to score and that there could be some good margins in Under 1.5 goals. It wasn’t a surprise when they went on to a 0-0 draw against Pirates, providing returns in that Under camp. They now welcome a Sekhukhune side with the second most clean sheets in the league, so could be feeding on scraps here again. On that note, this could be tight:

18 – City have kept three successive clean sheets in the league for the first time since January 2018.

Supersport United (9th) v AmaZulu (6th)

Supersport have started 2022 in complete shambles, losing both league games this year. But it goes beyond that – 26 points from 19 is Tembo’s worst coaching start at this stage of a PSL season. Already 25 points behind Sundowns, they may soon be worrying about a Top 8 finish. You have to go back six years to find Over 2.5 goals in this tie, so we’re leaning towards another dry runout. However, AmaZulu have failed to score away from home just twice this season, the joint-fewest of all sides.

0 – Supersport are the only side yet to draw at home this term, only winning (5) or losing (5) as hosts.

Maritzburg United (12th) v Mamelodi Sundowns (1st)

The champions-elect were emphatic in their 3-0 win during the week and will be looking to take another step closer to the title on Saturday night. Standing in their way is a Maritzburg side with one league win in 12, and one clean sheet in 8. When you consider they last beat Downs in the league 10 years ago, it’s hard to see how this ends in anything but a Sundowns win. The only caveat could be the coaching trio’s record in Durban:
