Horse Racing Tips: Time To Fly First Class?

There’s plenty of fascinating feature horse racing action to look forward to this weekend, starting this Friday night at Turffontein.

Turffontein (Friday)

Race 5 – Flying First Class 

One of the best bets on the card in Joburg on Friday night comes in Race 5 in the form of Flying First Class. The Silvano mare gets the services of Calvin Habib once more and cruised in last time to notch up her eighth career victory. She’ll carry just 53.5kgs on her back and will have no issues with the distance. I’d go as far as making this a banker in the Pick 6.

Race 6 – Reny

Since her four-month break, Reny has come on from that to win both her horse races and now seeks a hat-trick of wins. Both those runs have been won by a good couple of lengths, and with the step up in trip to a mile, the daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should take the power of beating. Randall Simons is riding at the top of his game and could be another possible Pick 6 banker.

Race 7 – Bonete

Bonete was the talk of the town on her debut and went on to produce a cracking run, winning by over four lengths. She didn’t beat the most competitive field, but the manner in which she geared down showed that the daughter of Querari has plenty of ability. Randall Simons retains the ride for Mike De Kock and should be difficult to oppose.

Kenilworth (Saturday)

Race 2 – Chansonette

Chansonette offers punters an early chance to build up their weekend accumulators in race 2 of Saturday’s program. The daughter of Vercingetorix finished runner-up in her comeback run last time and should strip fitter as she goes back to the mile. The Andre Nel-trained filly has been over the course and distance just twice, winning once and finishing under half a length behind Captain’s Ransom.

Race 6 – Cousin Casey

The best bet on the card comes in race 6 on Saturday in the form of Cousin Casey. The Glen Kotzen-trained champion comes into this race seeking his fifth successive victory, including a Grade 1 win in his last start. Despite this being a fairly competitive field, it’s hard to not picture Grant van Niekerk looking over his should at the other runners at the 300m mark.

Race 7 – Hithemhardsunshine

Hithemhardsunshine produced an eye-catching comeback run and finished off well over 1000m. Over the extra furlong, the son of What A Winter will take the power of beating. He’s 4kgs better off at the weights and has a neat inside draw of barrier gate 1.

Scottsville (Sunday)

Race 4 – Pirate Prince

Pirate Prince was impressive in his last start to come out of the maidens, winning by over two lengths. The horse that finished third in that race has since come out to win by 3 and a half lengths. Keagan De Melo is in fantastic form and retains the ride for the Alyson Wright stable. Together, the pair should take a power of beating.

Race 5 – Sun Blushed

Sun Blushed looks to be the class of this race here at Scottsville. He finished just over a length behind Passage Of Power and stayed on strongly, which suggests he’ll be at home over the extra furlong this time. The son of The United States has been running against much stronger so should make his presence felt here.

Race 6 – Ice Kingdom

Ice Kingdom tops the merit rating in race 6 at Scottsville and rightfully so, after a blistering end to his race over 1200m last time out. Muzi Yeni retains the ride for the Paul Lafferty stable and will look to make it two on the bounce. He carries 61kgs on his back but has an ability to overcome any great challenges on Sunday.
