Jon Jones returned to the top of the UFC pound-for-pound ranking after beating Ciryl Gane to become the new heavyweight champion at UFC 285. The former UFC light heavyweight king defeated Gane via submission with a brutal guillotine choke with just two minutes and four seconds on the clock.

Jones leapfrogged rivals Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, who are separated by one point on the panel’s internal scoring system.

After losing her flyweight title to Alexa Grasso, Valentina Shevchenko relinquished her number-one spot in the women’s pound-for-pound rankings. She moved down to third, with new flyweight champion Alexa Grasso rising to second.

In other news, South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis pulled off an impressive win over top-five middleweight Derek Brunson. His impressive win sees him climb to 6th in the UFC’s middleweight division, which could see him one win away from a title shot.
