Does Dariush Deserve A Title Shot With A Win Over Oliveira At UFC 289?

Dariush Oliveira Title Shot

Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira will co-headline the UFC 289 pay-per-view, which takes place this weekend at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. Beniel Dariush recently stated in an interview that he’s been promised a title shot by the UFC if he gets past Oliveira this weekend. Does the Iranian deserve a title shot with a win over “Do Bronxs” this weekend?

The main event will see the number one women’s pound-for-pound fighter Amanda Nunes defend her bantamweight title against Irene Aldana.

A win over the former lightweight champion Oliveira will see Dariush extend his win streak to 9 fights after his impressive performance against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280 in October last year. Many thought that he’d done enough to earn a shot at current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev before the UFC booked a super fight between Makhachev and featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski earlier this year.

When you look at Charles Oliveira’s resume and the opponents his beaten recently, beating him would be Dariush’s biggest win in his UFC career thus far. Beneil is the favourite going into this fight on Bet.co.za at 1.66, and I believe he’ll get his hand raised and go on to face Makhachev for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship at UFC 294 in October.

In my opinion, he’ll be Makhachev’s toughest opponent along with Volkanovski, so I would definitely love to see that fight.

The UFC 289 card is underwhelming on paper and many MMA fans have this exciting bout between Oliveira and Daruish as the “People’s Main Event”. It will most likely be an entertaining fight between two of the best lightweights in the world.
