Learner Tien is emerging as one of future bright stars. Tien pulled out a shocker in the second round defeating three times Australian Open finalist Danil Medvedev in a marathon match that took over five hours to finish.
The 19-year-old American progressed to the last 16 becoming the first youngest male player to reach the stage after 20 years. The last man to do this is Rafael Nadal. His good run of form was stopped by Lorenzo Sonego.
Lys turn lucky into magic.
Before the Australian Open, Eva Lys had just recorded one Grand Slam main draw victory in her career. That record was meant to stand for months after she lost in the qualifying rounds of the tournament. But there was a change of fortunes as she received an entry to the main draw as the lucky loser following Anna Kalinskaya’s withdrawal due to illness.
The 23-year-old Lys had already booked the flight back home but she took a second chance with both hands and ended up reaching the fourth round, where she lost to Iga Swiatek. Her performance demonstrated the true meaning of being a fighter.
Alcaraz touching message to Draper
Carlos Alcaraz showed good sportsmanship after getting a walkover victory in the fourth round of Jack Draper. Draper suffered an injury while trailing with two sets to nil and was forced to retire. The 21-year-old Alcaraz wrote a sweet message in the camera lens inside Rod Laver Arena to sympathize with his opponent.
“You will be where you deserve, get well soon Jack!” message reads
“It’s not the way that I wanted to get through. I’m just happy obviously to play another quarter-final but a little bit sad for Jack. He’s a really nice person, he doesn’t deserve to get injured. He couldn’t prepare at the start of the season well. I’m pretty sure he’s going to come back stronger as always he does and I just want to wish him a speedy recovery.”
