World football governing body FIFA is unhappy with the access afforded to Nusret Gokce, also known as ‘Salt Bae’. The Turkish chef was photographed holding and kissing the World Cup trophy after Argentina’s victory over France.

‘Salt Bae’ caught the ire of many football fans on social media for seemingly gatecrashing Argentina’s victory parade at the Lusail Stadium. At one point Lionel Messi is grabbed by the Turk, who owns several restaurants around the world, to pose for a photograph.

FIFA’s rules state that only World Cup winners and heads of state are allowed to touch the trophy. Gokce was also photographed playfully biting on a player’s medal.

According to Sky Sports, a FIFA spokesperson said: “Following a review, FIFA has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December. The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

Gokce rose to fame after a meme was created of the 39-year-old seasoning meat uniquely. His behaviour in Qatar has left a bitter taste in the mouths of football fans worldwide.

In what has been described as one of the best football matches in history, a Messi-inspired performance saw Argentina win their first World Cup since 1986.

The PSG forward emulated Diego Maradona to singlehandedly guide La Albiceleste to victory despite club teammate Kylian Mbappe scoring a brilliant hat-trick for France to level matters at 3-3 at the end of extra time. Messi earned the player of the tournament Golden Ball award and finished his campaign with seven goals, one behind Mbappe.

A coolly-slotted penalty by the former Barcelona legend in the shootout gave the South Americans the belief that it was their night and Messi’s dream had become a reality.
