PSG v Manchester United – What Bets to Take

This is the first meeting between the two sides since Manchester United dumped Paris Saint-Germain out of the 2018/19 Champions League round of 16 with a stunning 3-1 win in Paris.

After a disastrous start to the season, PSG have won their last five matches and kept a clean sheet four times. United are still trying to overcome their dodgy start but did at least win 4-1 away to Newcastle at the weekend.

Despite beating PSG in their backyard the last time they faced off, Thomas Tuchel’s side are clear favourites here. Neymar and Kylian Mbappe running at United’s defence will be a big concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mason Greenwood missed the 4-1 win over Newcastle due to fitness problems. Juan Mata replaced Greenwood’s and was influential over the weekend. Edinson Cavani trained with the United first-team on Sunday. He will be desperate to start against his old club on Tuesday but hasn’t played in seven months. Anthony Martial is instead expected to return after domestic suspension. Deadline day signing Alex Telles was an unused substitute against Newcastle.

PSG have won eight of their last 11 UEFA Champions League (UCL) matches. Five of those victories came with a multi-goal margin. 

Domestically, PSG’s recent 6-1 home win over Angers marked their sixth win in seven Ligue 1 outings at Parc des Princes. Lethal at any time, the Parisians averaged 1.67 goals beyond the hour mark across those wins. Despite, Manchester United winning their last UCL match at this ground. Their last five UCL has seen one win and four losses.

Will There be Goals?

PSG have scored 15 goals in their last 15 games while Manchester United have conceded inside the first 45 minutes in every Premier League match so far. United will sit back and allow PSG to make most of the play and try and hit them on the counter-attack. With Neymar and Mbappe fit to play, you’d expect PSG to have way too much firepower for United’s shaky defence. But, PSG have not replaced Thiago Silva and question remarks remain about their defence. United love a big game and their tactics seem to suit these kinds of matches so expect them to get on the scoresheet.
