UEFA Europa League action returns on Thursday as this season’s quarter-final lineup is decided once and for all in the round of 16 second leg.
We are predicting an impressive round for Premier League teams as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal look to consolidate their winning positions and Manchester United seek a favourable result at the San Siro against AC Milan in the pick of the fixtures.
You can take our suggested bets separately or together as a multi for potential winnings of R192.19 for a R10 stake at the time of writing.
Young Boys v Ajax
After a 3-0 win in the first leg of this tie, Ajax are looking very much like the team which made the 2017 UEFA Europa League final and 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-finals. In total, Ajax have won 15 of their last 16 matches in all competitions, including their last four.
Nevertheless, you can still get more than even money betting on an Ajax win. Although BSC Young Boys have had an impressive season, they don’t often play teams with the quality that Ajax possess and the Dutch giants are likely to repeat their first leg triumph.
AC Milan v Manchester United
AC Milan host Manchester United at the San Siro looking to build on Simon Kjær’s stoppage time away goal at Old Trafford which saw the first leg finish in a 1-1 draw.
United have since picked up a 1-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League — stretching their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 matches. AC Milan, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 loss to Napoli that must surely have felt like a death blow to their fading Serie A title chances.
It is still unclear whether or not Zlatan Ibrahimović will be able to feature against his former club. Adding further to Milan’s woes, COVID-19 restrictions mean that the Rossoneri‘s home advantage is significantly reduced against a strong opponent. Even on an off day, United came close to winning the first leg and they are likely to win the second.
Best Bet: Manchester United to win at 1.20
Arsenal v Olympiakos
Arsenal head into the clash with Olympiakos in fine form, having beaten the Greek side 3-1 away from home before a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the North London derby. They have now seen three or more goals in four of their last five matches in all competitions, winning all four of those high-scoring encounters.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the North London derby due to alleged disciplinary issues. However, with Mikel Arteta suggesting that the striker can now move on and put it behind him, it is likely that Aubameyang will start the second leg as he did the first. As one of the Premier League’s most lethal strikers, he poses a major threat to the Olympiakos defence.
The Gunners are tipped to win yet another high-scoring encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
Best Bet: Arsenal to win and over 2.5 at 1.95
Dinamo Zagreb v Tottenham
Tottenham’s form in the Premier League has been inconsistent and they are still smarting from a North London derby defeat to Arsenal, but José Mourinho’s men have remained on track in the UEFA Europa League and there is more riding on this fixture now than before with their Premier League top four hopes looking very grim.
Europa League victory may be Tottenham’s best hope of a place in next season’s Champions League — and for all his faults, Mourinho’s track record when it comes to winning trophies is beyond reproach.
Spurs will be motivated for this clash despite already holding a 2-0 aggregate lead from the first leg and there is value in a Tottenham win.
Best Bet: Tottenham to win at 1.05
