Portugal and Brazil have joined the defending world champions, France in the World Cup knockout stages with a game to spare.

In Portugal’s 2-0 victory against Uruguay, a pitch invader interrupted, with a rainbow flag, and wore messages of support for war-torn Ukraine and Iranian women.

Man United playmaker Bruno Fernandes starred for Portugal, scoring a brace in the second half, converting an injury-time penalty.

Portugal have won both of their first two-game, topping group H with six points. Three ahead of the black stars of Ghana, who edged a five-goal thriller against Son Heung-min’s South Korea.

Brazil also progressed to the last 16, courtesy of a late goal from Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. A late goal from a Man United veteran in the 83rd minute against Switzzerlannds cemented Brazil’s number one spot in Group G. Tite’s Brazil kicked off their campaign in Qatar with a 2-0 victory over Serbia
