Sead Ramovic Resigns As TS Galaxy Manager Amid Winless Streak

After a hard-fought draw against Stellenbosch FC, TS Galaxy manager Sead Ramovic announced his resignation on Wednesday night.

Sead Ramovic

After a hard-fought draw against Stellenbosch FC, TS Galaxy manager Sead Ramovic announced his resignation on Wednesday night. Despite earning a valuable point, the result was not enough to lift TS Galaxy from the bottom of the table. Ramovic, in his sixth game of the season, revealed his decision in a post-match interview, ending his three-year tenure with the Rockets on a somber note.

Current Situation

TS Galaxy’s start to the 2024/25 season has been challenging. They sit 16th in the league, with no wins in six games, three goals scored, and eight conceded. With only two points from a possible 18, relegation looms large. Still, there are glimpses of hope—expected points data suggests that, despite their position, TS Galaxy’s performances are not entirely indicative of typical relegation form.

Ramovic’s Legacy

Appointed in October 2021, Ramovic took over from Owen da Gama and steadily built TS Galaxy’s resilience in the PSL. In his first season, he guided them to a crucial 30-point safety mark. By the end of his second season, they had narrowly missed qualifying for the MTN 8, finishing with 35 points. His best campaign came last season when he led TS Galaxy to a historic 6th-place finish—their highest position in the PSL. His departure marks the end of three years of significant progress, marred only by this challenging start to the season.

The Difficult 2024/25 Campaign

One of Ramovic’s frustrations was the team’s challenging fixture schedule. Five of the Rockets’ first six matches were away from home, with their only home game ending in a 2-0 loss to league leaders Orlando Pirates.

In terms of performance, TS Galaxy’s attack has been underwhelming. They’ve taken the 11th-most shots in the league but rank last in shooting accuracy, alongside SuperSport United and Richards Bay, with a conversion rate of just 4%. They’ve registered only 3.84 expected goals (xG) across six games, closely matching their three goals scored. Their highest xG performance (1.19) came in a 1-1 draw away to Chippa United, with another solid xG (0.95) in the draw against Marumo Gallants. In their other games, they failed to create more than 0.5 xG.

More Underlying Metrics

Looking at the extended timeline of expected goals from last season, TS Galaxy’s fortunes began to shift around April. Their xG conceded rose above their xG created, yet they managed to grind out results and wins to finish strong. This season, however, a further drop in attacking output, combined with a tough schedule and the departure of key players, has seen their performance rate plummet.

What’s Next for TS Galaxy?

With Ramovic’s departure, TS Galaxy faces a critical juncture. Although their points total paints a grim picture, a closer look at expected metrics suggests there’s potential to turn their season around with the right adjustments. For the Rockets, the priority will be to stabilize defensively and ignite some much-needed attacking creativity to escape relegation danger. Ramovic cited the constant departure of key players and the resulting disruption as one of the reasons for his decision—whoever steps in, whether permanently or temporarily, will need to make do with the resources available at the club. It’s still early in the season, so there is time to capitalize on some promising underlying metrics.
