Asekho Tiwani (Sekhukhune to Sundowns – 19 years old) 

The 19-year-old featured in 13 league games for Sekhukhune United who themselves had a fantastic season in the top flight. His 12 starts at left-back along with his two league goals and one assist helped Sekhukhune United secure a 4th place finish at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. His season concluded with a 1-0 away win against Chippa United, where he once again found the back of the net. 

He was confirmed on Thursday afternoon by Sundowns, and he will have to fight for minutes with experienced players such as Aubrey Modiba and Terrence Mashego. Strong in the duel, Tiwani is also highly ranked in the league for interceptions and accurate long balls. It will be interesting to see how he fares in a possession-based Sundowns team that averaged 70% possession last season, compared to his old club (45% possession last season).

Asanele Velebayi (Spurs to Chiefs – 21 years old)

Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with signing another Cape Town Spurs player after last week securing Rushwin Dortley from the Mother City side. Velebayi struggled for game time at the start of the 2023/24 campaign featuring mostly as a substitute until the second half of the season. It was not until mid-February under new coach Ernst Middendrop that the 21-year-old was able to showcase his ability. Despite Spurs’ struggles, he maintained his form, playing various positions from left wing to central midfield, and even forward. He led his team for possession won in the final third last season and could be a useful tool for a pressing side. Velebayi was also adept at dribbling last season, bettered only by Chumani Butsaka for dribbles attempted per 90 minutes (minimum 500 minutes).

Brooklyn Poggenpoel (Chippa to SSU – 24 years old)

At 24, Brooklyn Poggenpoel’s performances for Chippa United have caught the eye, leading to his anticipated transfer to SuperSport United. Throughout the 2023/2024 season, Poggenpoel’s versatility and tenacity in the midfield have been evident, primarily occupying the defensive midfield position but also showing adaptability in advanced roles.

His season highlights include a goal in a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows on May 12, showcasing his potential to contribute offensively. Despite Chippa United’s mixed results, Poggenpoel consistently delivered solid performances, accumulating over 1,000 minutes of playtime across 19 appearances. His ability to break up play, coupled with a calm presence under pressure is shown in his radar, where he ranks highly for tackles and duels won. In addition, his accuracy with long balls makes him a valuable addition to any squad.
