15:30 – Orlando Pirates v Baroka FC

Orlando Pirates host Baroka on Saturday night knowing that a win can take them to the top of the league table, even if for a few hours. The Buccaneers are enjoying some good momentum, unbeaten in 10 games (all competitions), and two weeks away from a Cup final.

On Saturday they will meet their last Cup final opponent, Baroka, who vanquished them in the 2018 Telkom Knockout final, almost two years ago now. Although Baroka won that battle (on penalties), the war between the sides has been in Pirates favour since they (Baroka) came into the top flight. Just slightly.

0 – Baroka are winless in eight league matches against Orlando Pirates, losing two and drawing the remaining six.

Possible Bet: Pirates to win at 1.76

The first match between the sides featured Oscar Masuluke’s Puskas nominated equaliser, and the six draws since then suggest some closely fought fixtures over the years. Both matches between the two sides last season ended also in a draw, although Pirates scored first in both.

6 – Since Baroka were promoted in 2016/17, six meetings between the two sides have ended in a draw. No fixture has ended in a draw on more occasions in that time.

Possible Bet: Draw at 3.20

At the same time, 7 points from 12 is Baroka’s best start to a league campaign in three seasons, and they are currently sitting in a respectable fourth on the table. Richard Mbulu’s three goals in three starts have elevated them to unusual heights on the table, although it is still early days.

100% – Both teams have scored at least once in each of the 8 matches played between the sides.

Possible Bet: BTTS at 2.35

On the other hand, the Zinnbauer effect continues for Orlando Pirates’ defence. Since the German took over, no side has scored more than one goal in a league game against Pirates (P21). In fact, Baroka have never seen their own players score more than once in a league game against Pirates – the only time they scored more than once included an own goal.

Possible Bet: Pirates clean sheet at 1.83

Multiple Bet: Orlando Pirates to win at 1.74

18:00 – Mamelodi Sundowns v Stellenbosch

Defending champions Sundowns welcome Stellenbosch to Pretoria on Saturday evening. Last season Sundowns won both fixtures against (at the time) newly-promoted Stellies, including the last league game before football was suspended.

1 – Sundowns have lost just one of their last 10 league games (W7 D2), collecting 23 of the 30 available points in the process.

Possible Bet: Sundowns to win at 1.38

Despite winning their last game against AmaZulu, the coaching team may be worried about leaking three goals, especially in a home fixture. A defence that had not conceded in 450 minutes of action suddenly allowed three goals in the space of 60 minutes against AmaZulu. Perhaps that was an anomaly and seven clean sheets in ten home games is more reflective of their defensive abilities.

On the same weekend Sundowns let in three, Stellenbosch also found their scoring boots in a 2-0 win. This was only the second time since November last year that Stellenbosch scored more than one goal in a league game. Away from home, Stellies scoring record over the last six reads: 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0 – a record that can make Sundowns confident of a better defensive display.

Possible Bet: Sundowns clean sheet at 1.64

With 27 goals in 2020, no side has scored more league goals than Sundowns at home this year. Their opponents, meanwhile, have kept just three clean sheets away from home since their promotion last season.

0 – Stellenbosch have not kept a clean sheet away from home this year, and are one of only two sides that have conceded a goal in every away match played in 2020.

Possible Bet: Sundowns to score over 1.5 goals at 1.80

Multiple Bet: Sundowns to score over 1.5 goals at 1.80

20:15 – AmaZulu v Cape Town City

Cape Town City struggled away from home last season. They were the only side not to win away from home before the lockdown, and their only “away” victories came in the bio-bubble. Yet, the Citizens have already tasted victory on the road this season, with a win over Maritzburg exactly one month prior. One month later, they’re back in KZN again.

2 – Having failed to win any of their first 10 away matches in KZN, Cape Town City have now won each of their last two away games to KZN opposition.

Those two KZN wins were against Golden Arrows and Maritzburg, meaning they are yet to win away to AmaZulu. In fact, if there is one fixture that has troubled Cape Town City since they became a PSL club, it is the AmaZulu one.

100% – City have lost three of the three away games at AmaZulu since the former were last promoted in 2017/18, their worst 100% record against any club in the top division.

Possible Bet: Amazulu to win at 2.95

Not only that, but City have never scored a goal of their own in the three visits to AmaZulu, with a solitary own-goal to show for their efforts. The four-goal bonanza over Celtic on the weekend may signal a team with a new attacking instinct.

27 – Cape Town City have scored 27 goals in the league this year. Only Sundowns (33) and Supersport (28) have more.

Possible Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 2.60

AmaZulu themselves showed attacking intent in scoring three goals against Sundowns over the weekend. This was the first time Usuthu scored three goals in a league match in nearly two years, last doing so on December 12, 2018, exactly 50 games ago.

1 – Since a 0-0 draw against Baroka in the first bio-bubble game, AmaZulu have scored at least once in eight of the nine games they have played. Only Supersport (9) and Sundowns (10) have scored in more games since the bio-bubble.

Possible Bet: BTTS at 2.00

Multiple Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 2.60
