PSL PREDICTIONS – MATCHDAY 2 MIDWEEK

PSL action resumes on Wednesday with last season’s top three all set to feature. None of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits are expected to have it easy as they face tricky away tests.

The defending champions head to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium off the back of a 2-1 CAF Champions League preliminary round defeat to AS Otôho d’Oyo.

Sundowns did, however, get their Absa Premiership campaign off to a good start with a 2-0 win over SuperSport United. Chippa United, meanwhile, were held to a 0-0 opening day draw by Stellenbosch.

Masandawana will be wary of the Chilli Boys having been knocked out of last year’s Nedbank Cup in Port Elizabeth. Fatigue could also affect them, but Pitso Mosimane’s men have the depth to cope. Sundowns are tipped for a narrow win.

Prediction: Mamelodi Sundowns Win 2-1

Polokwane City have picked up where they left off and head into this match off the back of 1-0 wins over Black Leopards and AmaZulu. Bidvest Wits, meanwhile, slumped to a disappointing defeat to Baroka after thumping AmaZulu 3-0.

All signs point to a close contest at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium between two of last season’s top five. Rise and Shine and the Clever Boys are predicted to share the spoils.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw

SuperSport United were outplayed by Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening fixture, but they gave Masandawana a scare in the first few minutes. Matsatsantsa have a good recent record against Orlando Pirates and this will be a big test for Milutin Sredojević’s men.

Orlando Pirates lost 1-0 to Green Eagles in the CAF Champions League preliminary round away leg, but they looked deadly in recent wins over Kaizer Chiefs (2-0 in the Carling Black Label Cup) and Bloemfontein Celtic (3-1 in the Absa Premiership).

The Buccaneers have not won in their last four league visits to SuperSport United (three losses and one draw). However, this is the best Orlando Pirates team we have seen in a while. Nevertheless, a draw is the tip in what should be a hugely entertaining contest for neutrals at the Mbombela Stadium.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw
