It’s another mouth-watering DSTV Premiership matchday and with the help of Optajabu, we crunched the numbers for you to make some good decision ahead of the matches.
We’ve previewed three matches including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Supersport United.
With history and statistic behind the decision, we’ve crafted a ready-made PSL Multiple at over 18.00 for you.
19:30 – Bloem Celtic v Orlando Pirates
Two MTN8 semi-finalists clash in a league encounter on Wednesday night. Both sides will be happy with their semi-final first leg exploits, with Pirates probably happier after thrashing Chiefs 3-0. Celtic will be quietly content with the respectable draw away home, especially given that it came with an away goal.
Focus shifts back to the league however, where both sides are still winless after the opening two games. Celtic remain unbeaten at home in the top-flight in 2020 (a record they share with Cape Town City). That strong home form bodes well for maintaining this record:
1 – Pirates have won just once on their last 12 visits to Celtic in the league, drawing six and losing five since 2009.
Pirates lost their opening two league games, and have failed to win their opening three only twice before in the PSL era. Failure to win here would equal the opening 3-match winless runs of 2008/9 and 2014/15.
Possible Bet: Pirates to win at 2.35
That solitary win in 12 against Celtic is the fewest that Pirates have managed against any opponent they have faced at least 5 times since 2009. Only this time, Celtic are hosting a Pirates side that has also lost just once away from home in the league this year, the fewest of all top-flight sides. They also have the meanest away defence (conceded 5).
1 – Pirates have not conceded more than one goal in a single league game since Josef Zinnbuaer took over in December 2019.
Suggested Bet: Under 1.5 goals at 2.70
The 3-0 victory over Chiefs was a welcome goal fest for Pirates, who have struggled to find the net in recent times. They have scored more than one goal only once in the last 12 league games. But when they score, they often score first. In the 15 scoring matches involving Pirates under Josef Zinnbuaer, The Buccaneers have opened the scoring 14 times. But away to Celtic, they have scored first only twice in the last eight visits.
Possible Bet: Bloem Celtic first to score at 2.40
19:30 – Kaizer Chiefs v TS Galaxy
After suffering a sobering 3-0 defeat to Sundowns in the Cup semi, Chiefs will be hoping to bounce back against new side TS Galaxy. Unlucky to win just 1-0 against Chippa, Chiefs were blown away against Pirates in the MTN8 despite being very close in chances created (Chiefs 4 to Pirates 6) and shots taken (Chiefs 9, Pirates 10).
1– Chiefs have scored more than one goal once in their last 15 league matches.
Possible Bet: Under 1.5 goals at 2.75
TS Galaxy are familiar foes. They beat Chiefs 1-0 in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final, so Chiefs have added incentive to get their revenge early on in the season. The Mpumalanga outfit currently lie in 6th on the table, with two goals scored, but are yet to find the net from open play. Both goals have come from set-piece situations (corners), so they may be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a rather porous Chiefs defence.
17– Chiefs have conceded 17 goals (all comps) since the PSL resumed in the bio-bubble in August, more than any other side that has been in the top-flight since then.
Possible Bet: TS Galaxy to score over 0.5 goals at 1.80
Having said all that, Chiefs have lost just one of the last 14 games they have played against a side new to the top-flight, winning five. But they have drawn eight of those games.
19:30 – Supersport v Stellenbosch
Supersport fought back to draw 1-1 at home against Celtic in the MTN8 quarter-finals, paving way for an exciting second leg next weekend. Before then, however, they must deal with Stellenbosch in the league on Wednesday night. The 3-1 defeat to Arrows was Supersport’s biggest league defeat since September 2019, and only the 5th time a Kaitano Tembo team have conceded three times in a single league game.
They stay at home on Wednesday and welcome Stellenbosch. Supersport have lost just once in home league matches in 2020, and are one of only two sides with 20+ points at home this year (Cape Town City the other).
Possible Bet: Supersport to win and BTTS at 4.25
Led by Bradley Grobler, Teboho Mokoena and Ghampani Lungu, Matsatsantsa have been free-scoring, finding the net in nine of their last 10 league games.
19 – Supersport have scored 19 league goals this year, more than any other top-flight side. They are also one of two sides to score in every home league game this year.
Yet their defence has kept only one clean sheet in the last seven games in all competitions, conceding a considerable 10 goals.
Possible Bet: BTTS and over 2.5 goals at 2.90
