PSL Betting Guide: DStv Premiership Weekend Action

There will be less than 72 hours for some Bafana Bafana players between landing at OR Tambo international airport and kicking off in the Premier Soccer League this Saturday. However, it’s only a minority will face this challenge. The rest would have enjoyed a two-week break from live action, but for punters, it is business as usual as the PSL returns. Richards Bay v Orlando Pirates

Richards Bay would have been the happiest team to see the international break, They were in freefall, but the bookies fancy them a bit here with some giving them a 33% chance for the win. Pirates (41%) remain favourites, despite the little-known fact that they have not won back-to-back away games in three years. That said, the 4-1 mauling away at Swallows may be a more salient factor considered, especially given their hosts haven’t kept a clean sheet since January. Plus, the Bucs have been ruthless against ‘lesser’ sides. Pirates’ only defeats since the World Cup have come against teams in first (twice), fourth and fifth. They’ve won the other five league matches by an aggregate score of 15-4. In fact, Pirates have not drawn a league game post-World Cup, either winning (6) or losing (4) in their 10 games. It’s a record they share with Arrows.

5 – Richards Bay are the first side to lose five consecutive league games this season. The last team to lose six in a row was Polokwane City in 2019/20.

Chippa United v SuperSport United

SuperSport blew a glorious chance to open the gap between other Champions League aspirants by losing 1-0 to Orlando Pirates a fortnight ago. The two shots on target and 0.5xG in that game tell a story of their own. The result itself wasn’t a surprise given their away form – they have not won an away game in five, their worst such run since Gavin Hunt’s second homecoming. Now they travel to Hunt’s other old club needing a pick-me-up result against a club in desperate need of survival points. Hunt has never lost a league game at SuperSport against Chippa (P3 W1 D2), and it’s worth noting that the last five matches between the sides have all been draws.

Kaizer Chiefs v Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs hosting Stellenbosch has never been a straightforward game for the hosts. The visitors are unbeaten on all three visits and have scored Over 0.5 in each. Given their current form, it’s hard to see how this will be an exception. The Maroons have clambered to top-flight safety again in quite a sensational style, picking up 13 of the last available 15 points. This includes stopping Sundowns’ all-time record-winning streak, and they will surely give it a go here. Yet, Chiefs are also enjoying their mini-revival. Zwane’s side have won four consecutive games across all competitions for the first time since April 2017, under Steve Komphela. Of the three teams engaged in the CAF race, Chiefs are the only ones at home this weekend, so they’ll want (or even need) to take advantage of that.
