Opta Jabu is back with a PSL Betting Guide ahead of this weekend’s DStv Premiership round of fixtures, headlined by third-place Orlando Pirates hosting second-place SuperSport United.
Stellenbosch v AmaZulu
AmaZulu are struggling at the moment, and if you asked Romain Folz in private, he could probably do without a clash against a team in form like Stellenbosch. The hosts have won five in six, including stopping the runaway train Sundowns. Meanwhile, Usuthu ‘s recent away win at Chippa was their first on the road since August (14 games all comps). One win may be insufficient evidence to suggest they’ve turned a corner, but their record is promising when they come towards the Atlantic shore: AmaZulu are unbeaten in six visits to the Cape (W2 D4 since January 2020).
15 – Both teams have scored in 15 Stellenbosch matches this season, more than matches involving any other side.
You can bet on both teams to score
You can bet on a draw/Stellenbosch win
Orlando Pirates v SuperSport United
Arguably the game of the weekend, for a few reasons, the first of which may not interest the playing teams. Sundowns can move one match closer to the title if SuperSport doesn’t win, Pirates can move within two points of SuperSport in a Champions League position with a win, while SuperSport can tighten their grip on 2nd with a victory. Pirates are favoured to win on the market though, and SuperSport’s away form lends credence to that position. One away win in five since January pales in comparison to the four away wins in five until Jan.
1 – While at SuperSport, Gavin Hunt has won just one of his last eight league games v Orlando Pirates (W1 D3 L4 from 2010 – 2022).
You can bet on a draw/Pirates win
You can bet on Under 2.5 goals
Maritzburg United v Kaizer Chiefs
Maritzburg are free-falling into the first division as things stand and may have their hands full when Chiefs pay them a visit this weekend. Chiefs have already beaten the Team of Choice comfortably this season, in what remains their biggest winning margin of the campaign (3-0). Arthur Zwane’s team are also in good form, riding on three wins on the trot for the first time since June 2021. This one looks like a straightforward away win, and the bookies agree, setting Maritzburg at 4.25/1 for the win. The hosts have scored Over 2.5 goals just once this season, and besides that Over 1.5 goals also just once.
3 – Chiefs have lost on just one of their trips to Maritzburg since 2009, winning three, but eight of those have been a draw.
You can bet on a Chiefs win/draw
You can bet on Maritzburg scoring Under 1.5 goals
