Another bumper weekend in the DSTV Premiership, and there are some huge matches to look forward to. OptaJabu has crunched the numbers and gives statistics to inform you on the best betting options for this weekend.
AmaZulu v Chippa United
Despite failing to win their last two games, Usuthu have started the season impressively (results-wise) and we’re tempted to give them a good shout here. Not only are they hosting the bottom side that has conceded the most goals, but Chippa are also undergoing coaching changes. It’s their third game in KZN in as many weeks, and they’ve come home empty-handed on both previous occasions (v Maritzburg & Arrows). The only positive is that they scored on both occasions. In fact, they’ve scored on their last two visits to AmaZulu, winning 3-1 in December 2020 and drawing 2-2 a year later. Chippa scoring Over 1.5 goals (@ 5.75) could be a stretch, but Chippa scoring Over 0.5 (@ 1.83) less so.
4 – Chippa have scored in every away game this year, one of only four teams with this record.
You can bet on both teams to score
You can bet on Chippa United to score over 0.5 goals
Orlando Pirates v TS Galaxy
Asked about his team’s scoring woes, Jose Riviero highlighted that he is not worried because his team are getting up to six players in the box when they attack. That’s a lot for a team that is yet to score Over 1.5 goals in any of their seven games. TS Galaxy’s famed defence (seven clean sheets in eight) would be the last team you want to face. Yet, despite the clean sheets, Laduma Analytics revealed that TS Galaxy’s Expected Goals Against has them as the second worst defence in the league. Cape Town City breached the Rocket’s defence, but could this be a game where the bubble really bursts for them?
4 – Four goals in seven games is Pirates’ joint-lowest total at this stage of a PSL season (4 also in 2008/9). They’ve never had less than 6 goals after eight games.
You can bet on a Pirates win or a draw
You can bet on Pirates (finally) scoring over 1.5 goals
Mamelodi Sundowns v Golden Arrows
Sundowns struggled to break down Chippa midweek, and could be up against another low block in this one. With a 6-0 pummeling still in the back of their minds, it would not be surprising if Abafana Bes’thende hold back. Despite scoring three goals against Chippa, Arrows only made their way into the opposition box eight times, their lowest in a game this season. In their last four games against Sundowns, they’ve entered the box 10+ times only once. Admittedly, Downs are yet to get into gear, but it’s hard to see them drop points here.
12 – Sundowns are unbeaten in 12 home league games v Arrows, keeping 10 clean sheets in those 12 games.
You can bet on Arrows scoring less than 1.5
Marumo Gallants v Kaizer Chiefs
Gallants’ inability to win a game at all this season has already cost their manager his job. Having said that, a win against a side as big as Chiefs would be the perfect panacea for their woes and their chairman will be desperate for that. Not only will it make his decision to relive Folz seem justified, but it will also take Gallants above Chiefs on the log. Chiefs are creating decent chances (not as many as last season), but the issue is that they are just not taking them. Despite losing all three away games without scoring, Chiefs are surprisingly favoured to win here (@2.15). For the brave, betting on Over 2.5 goals in the game yields a near three-fold return.
0 – No match involving Chiefs has seen both teams scoring this season.
You can bet on under 2.5 goals
You can bet on Chiefs Scoring over 0.5
