DStv Premiership Stats Pirates

A truncated weekend of football sees just four PSL matches this weekend, with a few teams involved in continental action. Every week, we preview top-flight action by looking at the historic and present stats. Even for short game weeks, that is no different. So here goes…

TS Galaxy v Swallows

TS Galaxy have failed to score in their last six league games, their longest such run since their 2020 promotion. Failure to score here could do some serious damage to their ambitions of remaining a top-flight club. Against Swallows, they are coming up against a team likely to be a direct competitor in the relegation battle. The bookies make the hosts favourites here, perhaps a tribute to the fact that they’ve never lost against Swallows FC in the top-flight (four meetings). It’s the longest they’ve played any top-flight side without a defeat (D3 L1). A coachless Swallows in disarray, who haven’t won on the road in eleven games look the perfect bet for Tim Sukazi’s men to end their drought.

16 – No team has conceded more goals than Swallows FC this season (16).

You can bet on a TS Galaxy win or a draw

You can bet on over 1.5 goals for the home side

Orlando Pirates v Richards Bay

These are some good times if you’re a Richards Bay fan. We’d have said the same for Pirates until a few days ago before they lost 2-0 to Sekhukhune. Saturday’s visitors have won more points away from home this season than any other side (12), although nine of those points have come in the comforts of KZN. Pitso Dladla’s team lost the last time they had to take a trip to Gauteng, so that could yet influence the outcome again. Yet, they will bank on their defence to shut out a rather blunt Pirates attack. The six goals the Buccaneers have scored so far are better than only Maritzburg & TS Galaxy.

6 – Richards Bay have kept six clean sheets in nine league games, the most by a newly promoted side at this stage of a top-flight season in PSL history.

You can bet on under 2.5 goals

You can bet on a Pirates win/draw

Stellenbosch v Kaizer Chiefs

We’ll be attending this one live this weekend, not just because it is closer to home, but it has the potential to be a cracker. In Steve Barker’s own words, their recent 3-0 win gives them extra confidence going into this, but will that bit of form be enough to stop an improving AmaKhosi. Stellies are 3/1 to win the match, which looks like a good price, considering Chief’s recent away form. No team has conceded more goals away from home than Chiefs (9), and they’ll be tested (again) here.

0 – Chiefs have not scored a league goal in Cape Town in 431 minutes of league action (4 and a half league games).

You can bet on both teams to score

You can bet on Stellenbosch win/draw
