There is some midweek PSL action and we’ve been at it, as usual, digging through the numbers to help you make sense of what may come. What better way to prepare for the games than by getting some statistical context into the games, and we’ve chosen four games to look at and help guide your punting activity.

Sekhukhune United (15th) v Orlando Pirates (2nd)

Pirates have a chance to put pressure on Sundowns at the top of the table as they travel to Sekhukhune, whose winless streak stands at six games. A truncated league table from the morning after their last win (v Arrows almost 2 months ago) would see Babina Noko at the bottom – that’s how bad they have been of late. Last season, Pirates completed the double over them and the only hesitancy with backing a third win would be Pirates’ away form. Of the last 17 away league games, Pirates have won just three (D9 L5). This is their 10th away game this year, and they’ve scored Over 1,5 goals just once. Yet, under Jose Riveiro, they look (and feel) like a different side.

100% – Sekhukhune have scored in every home game this season, one of only three sides with that 100% record.

Golden Arrows (5th) v Cape Town City (12th)

Arrows played with a swagger in their 4-0 win over Swallows, but this will likely be tougher. If history is anything to go by, this could be the match for goals. Not only are Arrows second top scorers in the league, but they have also netted Over 2,5 and Over 3,5 in their last two home games. Plus the last five games between the sides have seen a whopping 20 goals, notably Over 4.5, Over 5.5, and Over 6.5 in three of those. City’s recent visits here have been fruitful, and that may give them a slight edge – but their 37% chance of victory given by the bookies is marginally close (35% for Arrows).

2 – Arrows are winless at home to City in three meetings (D1 L2), last winning this home tie in April 2019.

Supersport United (7th) v Royal AM (4th)

The odds make Supersport (2.3/1) favourites for the three points here, with a draw the next most likely outcome (2.75/1). An away win promises a near fourfold return (3.75), and it would take a brave soul to go for that. Royal AM have maneuvered 10+ shots just once in an away game all season, although three games is a small sample size. Yet, only Chippa have scored more away goals (7 – 6) and only Richards Bay have a better point-per-game average on the road (2.25 – 2).

1 – SuperSport have lost just one of ten away games this year (W4 D5 L1).

But that loss came against Royal AM.

Swallows (14th) v Kaizer Chiefs (19th)

Chiefs have been leaking goals with alarming regularity away from home, and that will be a cause for concern. They have conceded more away goals than any other side (8) and are one of only two teams yet to collect an away clean sheet. This will be their 10th game on the road since March, and they have just one clean sheet to show for it. Fortunately, they take a short trip to Swallows, who are equally leaky. No team has conceded more goals overall than the Birds (14), and there is no better game for Zwane to aim for a first-away win than this.
