Latest: PSL Betting Tips

The PSL festive season kicks off this weekend, with a series of games from Friday all the way until Monday night.

Two soccer players are competing fiercely for the ball during a match. One player, dressed in a black and gold uniform, is maneuvering to control the ball while the other, in a white kit with gold accents, is attempting a tackle or block.

Chippa United have a chance to go up to third on the table on Saturday, with the current third placed team (Polokwane City) only playing on Sunday.

As Gavin Hunt inches closer to his 1000th game in charge, he will be looking for some momentum ahead of what will be a massive celebration. But he has business to take care of this weekend against old foe Clinton Larsen. Our Betting Guide brings statistical context to the weekend action.

Chippa v CT City

Date: Saturday, 14 December 2024
Kickoff: 17:45 SAST
Venue: Buffalo City Stadium, East London

It’s been a tough season for Cape Town City, who find themselves 13th on the table, averaging exactly one point a game after Q1. Their away form is a major part of the reason they’ve struggled so far – one point from 15 on the road is a measly return.

So, it’s interesting that the odds are quite similar for both teams to win – 2.7/1 for Chippa to win and 2.65/1 for City to get the three points. Maybe the bookies are reading a lot into the head-to-head that City dominates, but Chippa’s home form has been exemplary of late (they only have one loss in six games, W4 D1).

0 – City are unbeaten against Chippa in their last 10 meetings, winning four and drawing six.

You can bet on both teams to score

SuperSport United v Magesi

Date: Saturday, 14 December 2024
Kickoff: 20:00 SAST
Venue: Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Pretoria

Despite their Cup heroics, Magesi are one point above the bottom following indifferent results in the league. It’s five games without a win, and they could do with a morale boosting result. It would only be their second away win in the league should they get it, no wonder the bookies aren’t too hot on this (5.8/1 for the away win says a lot).

Their hosts, meanwhile, picked up a narrow but impressive win away to Richards Bay a week ago. They are heavily favoured (1.7/1) and with Bradley Grobler back from injury, they should have enough firepower to go past the Carling Cup champions.

7 – SuperSport have kept more clean sheets than any other side this season (6).

You can bet on Magesi scoring less than 1.5 goals

Polokwane v Marumo Gallants

Date: Sunday, 15 December 2024
Kickoff: 15:30
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

If the home victory over Sundowns did not catch your attention, maybe the one over Chiefs did. Polokwane City are playing well, especially at home. They have barely broken sweat in a home game this season, and are the only team in the land without a defeat when hosting since March, winning five and drawing five home games in that time. Yet, they welcome a Marumo Gallants side who are picking up some form lately, and most importantly who beat them at home in the Cup recently. Seeing how the odds are leaning towards the hosts (2/1 fior a home win), one wonders how much that 3-2 win was factored in.

3 – Marumo are the only side to score Over 2.5 goals away to Polokwane City this season, and in the last two years.

You can bet on a Polokwane win or draw
You can bet on Under 2.5 goals
