Polokwane City have seen under 1.5 goals in all four of their league matches to date. 1-0 wins over Black Leopards and AmaZulu were followed by a 1-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits and a 0-0 draw with Chippa United.
Lidoda Duvha, too, have had some cagey encounters. Other than a 1-1 draw with free-scoring Highlands Park, Black Leopards have finished all of their league matches with under 1.5 goals between them and their opponents.
With the experienced Thabo Matlaba guiding the rest of the back four, Leopards can keep plenty of clean sheets. Furthermore, uncertainty over the future of Mwape Musonda has hampered them upfront.
Stellenbosch’s only goal this season came courtesy of Bidvest Wits’ Thulani Hlatshwayo, who netted at both ends in a 2-1 win for the Clever Boys. This was the only one of Stellies’ four matches which saw over 1.5 goals.
Maritzburg United have also been low-scorers and there have been under 1.5 goals in three out of their four league games, a 1-1 draw to 10-man Highlands Park being the only exception. This is unsurprising given the departures of Lebohang Maboe last year and Fortune Makaringe ahead of this campaign.

Draws are often profitable bets in South African club football due to how frequently they occur. It helps to find teams which pick them up regularly. Last season, Highlands Park were the draw kings with 14 from 30 league matches.
Owen da Gama’s men have started the new season with two from four, but Chippa United have gone one better after draws against Stellenbosch (0-0), Mamelodi Sundowns (1-1) and Polokwane City (0-0).

Highlands Park fixtures have consistently served up action at both ends this season, with Owen da Gama’s men seeing BTTS in all four league matches so far.
There are often big odds on BTTS, which means that if the trend continues for the Lions of the North, bettors who catch on could potentially bring home sizeable returns.
