DStv Premiership Betting Guide: Weekend Action

All teams are in action this coming weekend in the DSTV Premiership, with AmaZulu welcome Cape Town Spurs kicking off the action on Friday night.

Orlando Pirates

All teams are in action this coming weekend in the DSTV Premiership, with AmaZulu welcome Cape Town Spurs kicking off the action on Friday night. Pirates and Sundowns are traveling to face Superport United and Cape Town City respectively. Below is a betting guide to help make sense of the statistical context in some games. Enjoy.

AmaZulu v Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs have shipped 12 goals in their last five games, but the truth is they have been terrible for months now. As we approach the halfway stage of the season, they are on course to set many new unwanted records for this stage of a PSL campaign. This is their eighth away game of the season, and they have lost all previous seven, scoring just five goals away from home. Their hosts were quite impressive against Sundowns, despite losing the game recently. At 1.5/1, the odds heavily favor the home team for the win – the shortest you’ll get for any team this weekend. Tell you what, we’d be tempted to put Over 2.5 goals as well (currently priced at 2.6/1).

3 – Spurs (3 points) need a win here to avoid setting a new record for the lowest points total at the halfway stage of a PSL season (2010/11 Black Aces & 2003/04 Hellenic had 5 points).

You can bet on an AmaZulu win.

You can bet on Over 2.5 goals in the game.

Kaizer Chiefs v Richards Bay

Kaizer Chiefs will surely be revved up for their last home game of the year. If you asked Cavin Johnson how he’d like to end the year, a home fixture against a struggling Richards Bay would probably be top of his Christmas list. It has been a tough year at the club, with 14 league defeats the second highest in the division this year. The good news is that they host the team that has the most defeats this year – 19 for The Rich Boyz. Their away form has contributed a lot to that, and there is little surprise Chiefs (1.8/1) are heavily favored for the win compared to their visitors (4.8/1).

1 – Richards Bay have won just one of 14 away games since January (P14 W1 D4 L9 all comps).

You can bet on a Kaizer Chiefs win

You can bet on Over 2.5 goals

SuperSport v Orlando Pirates

With 16 points from a possible 18, Pirates are the form team in the league. They are back in the goals too, having found the net in seven of the last eight games, with Over 1.5 goals in two of the last three. However, this is a fixture that has troubled them for the last decade. Pirates are winless away to SuperSport since 2014: P12 W0 D3 L9 (last won in Nov 2014). Yet, if ever there was a good time to face SuperSport, it would be three days after they were involved in a grueling continental encounter. Pirates meanwhile enjoyed a few days off after winning away to Arrows on Sunday. But they have struggled for consistency away from home – and are yet to win back-to-back away games in the league this season.

8 – SuperSport have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight league matches, their worst such run in over 10 years (8 games with no shutout in 2013).

You can bet on Pirates to score Over 0.5

You can bet on a Pirates win or draw

Cape Town City v Sundowns

It’s Number 1 v Number 4 this Sunday, and the question is – can these two deliver a pre-Christmas classic this Sunday? Two things going in City’s favor are their home form and Sundowns’ busy schedule. City have lost one of 12 home league games played since January this year, and they will want to end the year with that record intact. Meanwhile, Sundowns are scheduled to play eight games this December (all competitions), the most matches they have ever played in a single December in PSL history. However, recent history is in their favor – and they also have more records in sight as the year ends.

6 – Sundowns are unbeaten in the last six games v City (P6 W3 D3 L0), keeping six clean sheets in these games. However, three of the last four games between the sides ended 0-0.

You can bet on a draw or Sundowns win

You can bet on Under 2.5 goals
