DStv Premiership Betting Guide: Weekend Action

Kaizer Chiefs

10 teams are involved in DSTV Premiership action this weekend, as league football takes centre stage once again. A lot has happened since the last round of multiple games almost three weeks ago, including surprise coaching changes at one of the biggest clubs. We’ve picked three games to focus on this weekend, including Chiefs, with some stats to help punters make the best punting decisions.

Golden Arrows v Kaizer Chiefs

Cavin Johnson takes charge of his first game at Chiefs on Saturday afternoon when Amakhosi travels to KZN to face Golden Arrows. Their form under Mabhuti Khanyeza has been impressive, and they look like a different team from the one that was hammered 4-0 by Sundowns just two months ago. At 2.45/1, the bookies even favour them for the win, and it’s hardly surprising when you consider their visitors’ contrasting form. Chiefs have won one of their last seven games in all competitions, but hopefully, the new manager bounce may be enough here.

2013 – Arrows haven’t kept a clean sheet at home to Chiefs since 2013 (9 league games).

Chippa v AmaZulu

It may not be pretty at the moment, but Pablo Franco Martín is getting some positives out of AmaZulu. A win and draw against Chiefs and Pirates in their last two games will be confidence boosters to a side whose defensive resolve has been a stand-out trait so far. No team has more clean sheets this season (6) than Usuthu, but on the other hand, no team has failed to score on more occasions either (6). It all bodes for a low-scoring tie, and the Under 2.5 goals bet (at 1.5/1) looks inviting. Even under 1.5 goals (at 2.4/1) may be worthwhile. The visitors’ away form is the one area of concern.

1 – AmaZulu have won one away league game in the last 14 months (P17 W1 D9 L7), but that win came away to Chippa in March.

Richards Bay v CapeTown City

Cape Town City’s mini revival came to a crashing end in the Carling Cup when they went down 3-1 to Golden Arrows. The Citizens had won back-to-back games in the Cape derby and versus Chiefs before getting knocked out of the Cup. In fact, City’s last two defeats have come away in KZN (also v AmaZulu in September). However, you have to fancy them to get the job done against Richards Bay on Sunday, and the market agrees – with 2.4/1 for the away win on offer compared to 2.9/1 for the home win. Unlike City, the Rich Boyz progressed in the Cup but that horrible run of 1 win in 24 games is still hard to shake off.

0 – Richards Bay are yet to win a home league game this year (P13 W0 D3 L10) with just one clean sheet in that time.
