This past weekend of DSTV Premiership action saw all five matches end in away wins. The last time 5+ matches ended in away wins on the same weekend was 4-6 January 2019 (5/8 matches). Most notable is the 4.60 return we highlighted in our last piece that was offered for Marumo Gallants to beat a Chippa side yet to win at home this season. Gallants won 3-2. We’re back again, looking at the midweek action.
Marumo Gallants (11th) v Baroka (16th)
Only one team (Sundowns) has won more points than them since Dan Malesela arrived at Marumo Gallants. Oddly, it’s their away form that has provided the momentum, as they continue to struggle on their own turf. One home win in four (D2 L1) pales in comparison to four in six away (D1 L1), but what better chance to remedy that record than hosting the league’s basement side.
0 – Baroka are the only side yet to win away from home this season, drawing two and losing the other eight of their 10 away matches.
They also have one away clean sheet, the fewest of all sides
Suggested Bet: Draw/Gallants win
Suggested Bet: Over 1.5 goals for Marumo
Pirates (4th) v CT City (9th)
Pirates are billed as huge favourites to win here, with as much as 6+ returns available for a City win. City’s only away wins this season have come in KZN (v Royal AM & Arrows recently), but the rest of their away games have been uninspiring. They blanked in five of those seven games, and Tinkler will be hoping his former side can help him turn this around. However, Pirates are unbeaten at home in 10 games (W7 D3), including clean sheets in each of the last three.
0 – City are yet to win away to Pirates since they became a top-flight club (D3 L2). This is their sixth visit there.
Suggested Bet: Pirates to win/draw
Suggested Bet: CT City to score less than 1.5 goals
Suggested Bet: Pirates to score
AmaZulu (7th) v Stellenbosch (5th)
Usuthu came from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw when these sides last met, a result that kickstarted a record run of seven consecutive draws. The draws have dried up a bit now (only one in the last four), and they’re well on the recovery path following double Cup defeats at the start of the year. Their unbeaten home run (a record shared with Sundowns) may be the factor that swung the odds in their favour. That said, Stellies have suffered only one away defeat this season (a record they also share with Sundowns). A draw (2.80/1) looks tempting here, except Stellies tend to struggle in KZN.
0 – Stellies are yet to win an away match against KZN-based opposition since their promotion in 2019.
Bear in mind Usuthu may make some changes, given the hectic fixture list.
Suggested Bet: AmaZulu win/draw
Suggested Bet: Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 goals
TS Galaxy (14th) v Sundowns (1st)
The win over Al-Ahly has been hailed and received the praise it deserves, but Downs’ away form has been a bit patchy all season. This will be the Brazilians’ 10th away game and they have scored Over 1.5 goals in just two of those matches, so the 1.65/1 for Sundowns to score Under 1.5 goals may be an opportunity. Under Ramovic, TS Galaxy lost one in five at home leading up to Christmas, and will be keen to continue from there, so you can expect them to have a go.
0 – Despite losing one of the last 17 away games, Sundowns have not won consecutive away games (all comps) at any point this season.
Suggested Bet: Draw/Sundowns win
Suggested Bet: Sundown to score Under 1.5 goals
