The 2021/22 DStv Prem season is almost over and there have been some impressive young players this season. Here are the top five U21 youngsters for this campaign.
5. Brice Ambina
He is tipped to solidify his place in the starting eleven next season if he continues to put in good performances. The 21-year-old midfielder has been one of the outstanding youngsters in Eric Tinkler’s team this year.
4. Iqraam Rayners
The former Stellebosch FC striker has adapted to the new life in Gauteng well. For Amatsantsa Apitori, he has been a valuable player this season. Despite making 21 appearances this season and finding the back of the net 2 times, he has remained the marksman for the club.
3. Sbonelo Cele
Cele has been playing as someone with loads of top-flight experience. Despite making a switch from the Richards Bay FC this season, the 20-year-old left-back has gone on to make 20 appearances this season for Golden Arrows. Blessed with blistering pace and good marking skills, he stands a chance of getting good offers from big clubs one day.
2. Athenkosi Mcaba
Mcaba was promoted to the first team this season. He has never disappointed as he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He even received a Bafana Bafana call-up under Hugo Broos. The 19-year-old from Tsakane is well guided in the defence by the experience of Robynn Johannes and Marc Van Heerden.
1. Ethan Brooks
The TS Galaxy star midfielder has been one of the consistent performers for the club this season. The 20-year-old has further gone on to cement his role in the Bafana Bafana squad. He remains one of the valuable squad members if the team is set to fight relegation. His good tracking of the game plus his hard-working style of play makes him a player a coach needs in his team.
