Cape Town City v Mamelodi Sundowns – Which Bets To Take

Cape Town City v Mamelodi Sundowns – Which Bets To Take. OptaJabu crunches the numbers & provides insight to a match that usually entertains.

PSlL betting tips and predictions

The pain of getting knocked out early in the MTN8 has been alleviated by four points in their first two games for both Cape Town City and Sundowns, a rather solid start. The two sides have tasted victory once (Sundowns v Chiefs and CT City v Maritzburg), shared the spoils once (Downs v TTM and CT City v Chippa) and also tasted defeat once (Downs v Celtic and CT City v Pirates). Those parallels could change on Wednesday night.

Cape Town City formidable at home

This year, no team has had a better home record than Cape Town City. The six game winning run at home between January-March and August-September was the best ever run of home wins by any City side. Even if we exclude bio-bubble matches, City have won 14 points from six games at their home ground, more than any other top-flight side. Overall The Citizens are one of only two sides who are unbeaten at home this year, alongside Bloem Celtic.

23 – Cape Town City have won more games (7) and more points (23) in home matches in the 2020 calendar year than any other side.

They are one of only two sides that have scored in every home game in 2020 (along with Supersport) and will be confident of finding the net at least once here.

Possible Bet: CT City to win at 4.30

Sundowns formidable away

While Cape Town City have been the best home team in the league this year, the record for the best away team belongs to Sundowns. They have won more points in away matches this year than any other side (20 points from 10 games), and have been even more impressive in front of goal.

18 – Sundowns have scored 18 league goals away from home in 2020, more than any other top-flight side, and double what they have managed to score at home (9).

Possible Bet: Sundowns to win at 2.15

Since the start of last season, Downs have found the net in 14 of their 16 away ties, meaning they have failed to score only twice. The last time they fired a blank in an away game was against Pirates in January. Since then they’ve scored in eight successive away games, their best scoring run in away games since 2014/15.

Possible Bet: Sundowns score over 1.5 goals at 2.15

History

Kermit Erasmus has since switched sides to join the defending league champions, hoping to add his goal scoring prowess to an already fearsome attack. Will he score on his return ‘home’ on Wednesday night? Erasmus was on target in the last match between the two sides, a 5-goal thriller that ended 3-2 in favour of his old side. Indeed, the last four clashes between the sides have seen both teams scoring.

Possible Bet: BTTS and over 2.5 goals at 2.85

Historically City have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture:

5 – Since joining the top-flight in 2016, there is no team that Cape Town City has beaten more than Sundowns in the league, joint with Chippa (5).

For Sundowns, no other side has beaten them more than three times in that period. Yet, since the latest defeat (3-2) in August, Sundowns have kept six clean sheets in eight league games. With memories of that 3-2 defeat still fresh, and the knowledge that they have kept only one clean sheet against City since 2016, a defensive approach could be employed by Mngqithi and co.

Possible Bet: Draw at 2.90
