Betting Notebook: PSL Weekend

Another full round of PSL games takes place this weekend, as the title race and other battles await more twists and turns.

Five of the six midweek games saw away wins (no draws) and good returns for those who took the risk, but we expect things to return to normal this weekend. Following their midweek postponed game, Orlando Pirates will look to make ground on table-toppers Sundowns.

The Brazilians have played three more games than their nearest rivals and could see their lead cut down by the time they kick off on Saturday night. Our Betting Guide brings some statistical context to the weekend.

Pirates (2nd) v Cape Town City (21)

The Citizens have won just one game in seven since their fantastic week at the beginning of the year when they beat both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Not only do they visit a well-rested Pirates (whose game was postponed during the week), but the Buccaneers will be out for revenge following the 1-0 loss in the reverse fixture.

The hosts are huge favorites, given the two teams’ form and the historical nature of this tie. For us, this screams home win, with a few goals on offer on the day.

1/21 – The away team in the Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates fixture has won just once in 21 games (9 draws, 11 home wins across all competitions).

Suggested Bet: You can bet on a Pirates win/home win
Suggested Bet: You can bet on Over 2.5 goals

Sundowns (1st) v TS Galaxy (5th)

Sundowns will also be looking for revenge against TS Galaxy when they host them on Saturday night. Last week, the Rockets delivered one of the surprise results of the season, beating Sundowns 1-0 at home. Can they repeat the trick?

Downs needed late goals to win during the week, and dug deep to get them unlike in their showing against Galaxy. But defensive frailties were on show, against a brave Gallants who could have scored two based on the simulation shown below.

That was an away game though, and Downs are almost perfect at home.

13/15 – Sundowns are unbeaten in 15 home games (all comps), winning 13 and losing just two.

Suggested Bet: You can bet on a Sundowns win or draw
Suggested Bet: You can bet on TS Galaxy scoring Over 0.5 goals

SuperSport (12th) v Golden Arrows (11th)

SuperSport had not scored Over 1.5 goals in a game until they met Chiefs during the week, where they went on and bagged 4. The question is whether they can repeat that in Gavin Hunt’s 1000th game in charge. The players will know that it’s a special occasion for their coach, and could go the extra mile. That said, Arrows are fresher and have only lost to Sundowns away this year.If you fancy the away win, a 5-fold return is on offer, and history says this could be worth a punt.

1 – SuperSport have won just one of their last six games against Golden Arrows (and two of the last 13).

Suggested Bet: You can bet on a draw or Arrows win
Suggested Bet: You can bet on Under 2.5 goals
