14 Valentine’s Day PSL Stats

It’s Valentine’s Day, and as usual, we dressed up in some numbers and came to the party as well, bringing you 14 Valentine’s Day PSL stats.

Roses are red, violets are blue, we’re excited that Premier League football is back and so are you. Please do not try that one at home, it doesn’t roll off the tongue as romantic poems should. It’s Valentine’s Day, and as usual, we dressed up in some numbers and came to the party as well, bringing you 14 Valentine’s Day PSL stats.

48 – 48 goals have been scored on Valentines Day in PSL league matches, with the first of these coming in the inaugural 1996/97 season.

14 – 14 different PSL seasons have seen games on Valentines Day, with the 2014/15 season seeing 10 goals scored on that day, the most of any PSL season.

6 – Supersport have scored more league goals on Valentine’s Day than any other team (6), while Moroka Swallows have conceded more league goals on Valentine’s Day than any other team (5).

5 – This is the 5th time in PSL history that Sundowns have had an encounter on Valentines Day, winning just one of these previously (D2 L1).

3 – Santos & AmaZulu have failed to score three times previously on Valentine’s Day, the most of all PSL sides.

0 – No player has scored a hat-trick on Valentines Day, but two players have scored a brace – Edzai Kasinauyo (for Hellenic v Ajax in 2000) and Erwin Isaacs (for Santos v Supersport in 2007).

2 – Rhulani Manzini is the only player to score on Valentine’s Day in two different seasons – doing so in 2015/16 against Celtic & 2016/17 against Sundowns.

1 – Rhulani Manzini is also the only player in PSL history to score on Valentines Day both home (2017) and away (2016).

1 – ​​Jean-Marc Makusu (for Orlando Pirates 2021) & Sula Matovu (for Kaizer Chiefs in 2016) scored one goal for their PSL clubs. They are the only players in PSL history whose solitary goal for their clubs was scored on Valentine’s Day.

1 – Daniel Mudau received his first red card as a Sundowns player in the PSL era on Valentines Day in 1999 (v Manning Rangers).

15 – Lerato Chabangu (nicknamed All You Need is Love) scored for Sundowns on Valentines Day, in a 2-1 win over Pirates 15 years ago (in 2007).

4 – Gordon Igesund is the only coach to win on Valentines Day with 4 different clubs (Manning Rangers, Free State Stars, Sundowns and Black Aces).

4 – No coach has won more league games on this day than Gordon Igesund (4), while Roger De Sa and Steve Komphela are the only others with more than one win.

0 – Steve Komphela is unbeaten as a coach on Valentines Day, winning two and drawing two of his matches – all four results have come with 4 different clubs (Dynamos (W), Free State Stars (W), Maritzburg (D) & Chiefs (D).
