PSL Betting Guide: Dstv Premiership Weekend Action 27 – 29 Jan

The PSL matches are coming thick and fast, with a full round of matches scheduled across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We’ve picked half of those and tried to dissect them, with a betting guide that may be worth your time.

Stellenbosch v Cape Town City

Stellenbosch are winless in nine (the worst run of any team all season), and their plight looks as healthy as that of the Proteas. Or Bafana Bafana. Take your pick – point is, it does not look good, and their inexperienced defence boasts the unenviable record of the lowest clean sheet count in the division. Having said that, the Cape derby has been a happy fixture, where they’ve won four of the last six (D1 L1). Given that they’ve also scored Over 0.5 in each of those matches, a draw (2.75/1) could be worth a play. City have one win on their travels so far (5 points is the second lowest of all teams), and if you believe Stellenbosch is not in Cape Town, that could mean something.

Mamelodi Sundowns v Sekhukhune United

The juggernaut keeps rolling. Fresh off setting a new PSL record for consecutive wins, Sundowns have eyes on a few more. We would list them here, but that could take a lot of space, so we’ll do an article on all their records next week (promise!). If there is a team that can stop them, maybe the next best-form team can do it. Enter Brandon Truter. Four wins in a row is a first for them in the top flight, and the draw at 4.7/1 may be appealing, given they are the only team that Sundowns hasn’t beaten this season. We watched them in person last week, and their defence looked solid and organised.

0 – Brandon Truter is winless in four games against Sundowns (P4 W0 D2 L2), but his teams have conceded Over 1.5 goals just once against the champions.

Marumo Gallants v Orlando Pirates

Saturday will tell us a lot about Pirates’ mini revival. The Bucs won back-to-back games for the first time this season, accompanied by seven goals, but they were at home. A trip to Royal Bafokeng against wounded Marumo Gallants would normally be a different test, but they also anchor the table. Pirates haven’t won three in a row since the bio-bubble days, yet they have momentum going for them. The same can’t be said for the hosts, who lost during the week despite scoring twice.

7 – Only one team in the PSL (Stellenbosch, 9) is on a longer winless run than Marumo Gallants (7).

Kaizer Chiefs v Royal AM

Chiefs have lost three in a row, but there were some signs of life for Arthur Zwane’s project in the defeat to Sundowns. They found openings here and there, and a few half-chances were created but none was taken. Normally, you’d order a home game against the league’s leakiest defence to bounce back from such terrible form, and that’s exactly what Chiefs are facing this weekend (24 conceded is the joint-worst record at the time of publishing). However, they did the double over Chiefs last season, and usually, show up for this one.

100% – Royal AM have won all three of their matches against Kaizer Chiefs since their formation, their best record against any top-flight team.
