DStv Premiership Numbers

The PSL have reached the halfway mark, with a full round of matches scheduled across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We’ve picked half of those and tried to dissect them, with a betting guide that may be worth your time.

Cape Town City v TS Galaxy

City were decent in the last game against Chippa but only came away with the point after missing several chances. This seems to be the story of their season, and they could easily be higher up the table if they were more clinical. They won both previous ties at home to the Rockets and are favoured to do the same again on Friday evening. TS Galaxy have become connoisseurs of the 0-0 draw and will be hard to break down. Yet, they’ll need to pull something out of the bag to beat a side with the second most points at home all campaign. Galaxy also struggles to score (8 goals all season) but the 60% return for Over 0.5 goals may be tempting given City’s own defensive troubles.

8 – City have conceded at least once in each of their last eight games, their longest run without a clean sheet under Eric Tinkler (both his spells).

You can bet on City to win

You can bet on TS Galaxy to score Over 0.5 goals

Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns

Another loss here for Kaizer Chiefs could do irrevocable damage to their dreams of ending in the CAF positions, and it will be interesting to see how the team responds after the 4-0 drubbing away to AmaZulu. Unsurprisingly, the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of Sundowns, who at 1.7/1 are the shortest for an away team to get a win this weekend. Recent form (10 wins on the trot) and recent head-to-head (2 wins in 10 for Chiefs) also point that way, but we have a feeling Chiefs can show up for the big occasion, as they are wont to do when least expected. Downs cruised to a 4-0 win in the reverse tie but historically have lost more times against Chiefs than against any other side (21).

0 – Sundowns have never completed a league double over Chiefs in the PSL.

You can bet on both teams to score

Orlando Pirates v Stellenbosch

After the late show against Arrows, Pirates will be hoping the task is simpler when they host Stellenbosch on Sunday afternoon. Four of the seven matches between the sides have ended in a draw, but that would be a disappointing result for Pirates, who (like many) are starting to lose sight of Sundowns. Pirates are yet to win back-to-back league games this season, and this may be their best chance to do so in a long time.

3 – Stellenbosch have kept just three clean sheets in the league this season, the fewest of all sides.

You can bet on a Pirates win

You can bet on Over 2.5 goals

SuperSport United v Richards Bay

The defeats are starting to pile up for SuperSport, who will be looking to bounce back this weekend following back to back losses. The good news is that they showed bravery against Sundowns. The bad news is that after facing the team top of the log, they now face the team in second. The Rich Boyz of Natal are quietly having a stellar season of their own, building upon a defence that has kept 11 clean sheets (only Sundowns have more). This is a hard one to call with any degree of certainty but it has “low-scoring Sunday afternoon game” written all over.

17 – Richards Bay have won more points away from home than any other side this season (17).

You can bet on a draw

You can bet on Less than 2.5 goals
