Match: PSG v Aston Villa
When: Wednesday, 09 April 2025, 21:00
Where: Parc des Princes
PSG Form
PSG beat Liverpool in the last round of the Champions League. They went into the first leg on a 10-match winless run but were sucker-punched by the Reds despite outshooting Arne Slot’s team 27-2. They won 1-0 at Anfield in the second leg and triumphed on penalties with 21 shots and 2.63 xG.
They’ve played matches since the second leg. They beat rivals Marseille 3-1 and smashed Saint-Etienne 6-1 away. In the Coupe de France, they won 4-2 at Dunkerque. On Saturday, they beat Angers 1-0 to secure the league title.
PSG Team News
Coach Luis Enrique has just one injury to deal with. Kang-in Lee has an ankle issue and this match may come too soon for him. Nuno Mendes, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele were all given partial rests vs Angers and will return to the XI.
Teenager Desire Doue has four goals in his last three matches and is pushing hard to start. In the end, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is likely to be preferred on the left.
PSG Motivation
PSG is 100% focused on winning the Champions League. The league title is sewn up and all attention is on beating Villa.
They will look to dominate the game and win by a two-goal margin in Paris, knowing the difficulty that a trip to Villa Park will pose.
Aston Villa Form
Villa are coming into their top form ahead of this match. Following a surprise 4-1 loss at Crystal Palace, they’ve won seven straight matches in all competitions. A 2-0 FA Cup win over Cardiff City was followed by a 3-1 win at Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Emery’s side went to Brentford and won 1-0 before beating Club Brugge 3-0 in the second leg in Europe. A 3-0 FA Cup win at Preston put them into the semi-finals before winning 3-0 at in-form Brighton. On Saturday, they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 as they netted twice in the first 15 minutes.
Aston Villa Team News
There are two injury doubts for this one. Both Ross Barkley and Leon Bailey have been missing due to injury but they’re back in training ahead of this one. Marco Asensio will be able to face his parent club due to UEFA’s rules over loan players.
Winger Donyell Malen is not registered for the Champions League and will play no part. Enzi Konsa, Marcus Rashford, John McGinn and Lucas Digne were all on the bench this weekend and will start this match.
Aston Villa Motivation
Villa are very versatile under Emery. They can attack, but they’re comfortable sitting back and defending in numbers.
For this first leg, Villa are likely to have only a third of the ball. They will look to hit Watkins and Rashford on the counter attack.
