The 52nd edition of the South African FA Cup kicked off this weekend with a series of games on the weekend.

11 teams have made it to the next round, including Pirates, Chiefs, and Sundowns.

But there is a lot still to play for on Tuesday and Wednesday. AmaZulu, SuperSport, and Stellenbosch are all in action, hoping to join the Last 16 party. In this Betting Notebook, we preview one game a day.

Tuesday: Magesi vs SuperSport

On Tuesday, two teams out of form will be looking to resurrect their seasons when they face off. For Magesi, they have the Carling Cup win to lean back on. But for Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport, the FA Cup is the only chance to glory. That said they have a similar problem – goals. They only have 10 goals to show for 2500 minutes of league football between them, and they need to get a tune out of their frontlines to make any sort of progress in this competition.

Team to Progress: SuperSport
Value bet: Under 1.5 goals

Tuesday: AmaZulu vs Mighty Eagles

AmaZulu can progress past the first round for the third time in a row when they host lower division side Mighty Eagles on Tuesday evening. They were hammered 5-0 in the league by Stellenbosch only a few days ago, and Arthur Zwane will be looking for a response following that humiliation. The odds are heavily in their favour for this one. They may have lost five times against lower-division teams in the past, but the last time that happened was in 2018 v Ubuntu.

Team to Progress: AmaZulu
Value bet: Over 3.5 goals

Stellenboch vs Kruger United

Cup specialist Stellies came into this on a high note, having dispatched AmaZulu 5-0 in their last league game over the weekend. Kruger United are in a respectable seventh on the first-division table, so this may not be a straightforward game. Again it’s the top side who are favoured to go through, and in a week that has not seen any upsets, this could follow the same pattern.

Team to progress: Stellies
Value bet: Both teams to score
