Chelsea will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday to face Manchester City in the most anticipated Premier League clash this weekend. A win for Chelsea will give them slim hopes of remaining in the title race. Meanwhile, The Citizens aim to increase the gap to 13 points in the league standings. Pep Guardiola’s troops managed to claim a victory over their opponents at Stamford Bridge last year and will aim to do the double over Chelsea.

Let’s look at four of the most interesting clashes between the two sides in the last decade.

Man City 6-0 Chelsea (2018/19)

Sergio Aguero was a hat-trick hero as Manchester City emphatically defeated Chelsea 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring on four minutes before Aguero hit a quickfire double, curling a superb 13th-minute shot into the top corner and then his second and City’s third six minutes later. Man City were 4-0 up in 25 minutes after German international Ilkay Gundogan put his name on the scoresheet and the home side went to halftime flying. Aguero converted from the spot to grab his hat-trick and put him level with Alan Shearer’s PL record of 11 hat-tricks. Sterling scored with 10 minutes remaining on the clock, to sum up, a perfect day for the Citizens. 

Chelsea 2-1 Man City (2013/14)

Fernando Torres struck on the 90th minute to give Chelsea a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. The miscommunication between Matija Nastasic and Goalkeeper Joe Hart, where the Serb, Nastasic headed a ball beyond his keeper and Torres won the race to slot the ball in the empty net. Despite scoring a winning goal, Torres had provided an assist for Andre Schurlle’s first goal to give the Blues a lead going to the break. Sergio Aguero scored a sublime goal to bring the visitors level before Torres broke the Citizens fans’ hearts with the last-minute winner.

Chelsea 2- 1 Man City (2019/20)

A match that was decided by Video Assistant Review ( VAR). Late in the second half, Manchester City’s Fernadinho got the marching orders for a deliberate handball to deny Tammy Abraham on the goal line. The referee pointed to the penalty spot after a review which William converted to hand Chelsea a 2-1 win over ten men City. Earlier in the match, Christian Pulisic had given the Blues the lead before halftime. Meanwhile, Kelvin De Bruyne scored a spectacular free-kick to level matters before William scored from a spot-kick to decide the match. 

Man City 1-3 Chelsea (2016/17)

Chelsea travelled to Manchester City aiming to make it eight consecutive Premier League wins. An own goal by Chelsea defender Gary Cahill at the stroke of half-time meant the visitors had to come from behind to claim the victory. Diego Costa scored on the 60th minute to bring the game to level terms and Willian scored to turn around the match. Then late in the match, Edin Hazard’s solo effort ensured that visitors rallied from a goal down to claim a 3-1 victory. Chelsea went on to be crowned league champions that season.
