Match: Juventus vs Man City
When: Wednesday, 11 December 2024, 22:00 SAST.
Where: Allianz Stadium

Juventus Form

Juve won their first two Champions League matches this season before losing 1-0 at Stuttgart on matchday three, their only defeat all season. Seven draws have followed in the last nine matches with just two wins. They drew 1-1 in Lille on matchday four before beating Torino 2-0 in Serie A.

They drew 0-0 at AC Milan and 0-0 at Aston Villa in their last European match with just 0.39 xG produced. Two more stalemates have followed, 1-1 at Lecce and 2-2 at home to Bologna. They scored a 92nd-minute equaliser to rescue a point in that match.

Juventus Team News

Coach Thiago Motta saw versatile fullback Andrea Cambiasso go off injured in the last match. Gleison Bremer is out long-term in defence and winger Nicolas Gonzalez is doubtful for this match.

Arkadiusz Milik is injured up front and Juan Cabal is out for the season. Young winger Samuel Mbangula scored from the bench on Saturday and is pushing for a start here.

Juventus Motivation

Juve sit 22nd in the Group Stage table, on the same points as Man City. This is a key match if they want to progress.

Thiago Motta’s side is strong defensively but not particularly free-scoring. They will strive for a clean sheet and hope to nick the goal needed for three points.

Man City Form

City have lost six of their last nine matches and are leaking goals for fun. This crisis comes on the back of going unbeaten in the first 14 matches of this season. Guardiola’s side lost 2-1 at Bournemouth and were thumped by 4-1 Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon. They threw away a lead to lose 2-1 at Brighton after that.

A 4-0 loss at home by Tottenham was alarming before drawing 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League having led 3-0. After losing 2-0 at Liverpool, they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 a week ago. It proved to be a false dawn as they could only draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace in their last match.

Man City Team News

City are without several key players. Rodri is injured in midfield and Mateo Kovacic will play no part. Oscar Bobb is ruled out in attack and Phil Foden remains doubtful after illness.

Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Nathan Ake are all injured in defence but Rico Lewis is available despite his red card at Crystal Palace. Jeremy Doku or Jack Grealish will replace Matheus Nunes whilst Ederson could continue to be benched.

Man City Motivation

City needs a win for many reasons. They need to end their slump as well and they need to move up the standings or elimination is a possibility.

Guardiola’s side are a shambles at the back and they know that Juventus are hard to break down. A controlled, safe approach is expected.
