Euro 2020: All You Need To Know – 24 teams, 51 matches in 11 host cities across Europe. This is European football’s biggest prize.

Euro 2020 finally kicks off in two weeks time. It will consist of 24 teams and 51 matches in 11 host cities across Europe, although it remains unknown how many fans will be allowed at the tournament, because of the ongoing global health crisis.

What is the tournament format?

The format will be the same as EURO 2016. The top two in each of the six groups will proceed to the round of 16 along with the four best third-placed finishers.

What are the key dates?

The first match will be played on the 11th of June at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, where Italy take on Turkey. The final will be played a month later on the 11th of July.

This is how the groups look: 

Group A: Turkey, Italy, Wales, Switzerland

Group B: Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Russia

Group C: Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, North Macedonia

Group D: England, Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic

Group E: Spain, Sweden, Poland, Slovakia

Group F: Hungary, Portugal, France, Germany

The tournament will be hosted across 11 host cities in Europe for the first time in the competition’s history

What is the tournament format?

It will be the same as Euro 2016 with the top two teams of each group all advancing to the round of 16 along with the four best third-placed teams 

Will the hosts play their matches at home?

The host will play all three group games at home having qualified through the European Qualifiers. Russia and Denmark both reached EURO 2020 through the European Qualifiers, an additional draw was held on 22 November 2019 to decide which team plays all three group stage games at home; Denmark will have three group home matches and Russia two.
