Matchday 16 of the Premier League saw a lot of movement up top with yet another new leader at the top at the end of the matchday. The mid-table also had its battles. Bet Central brings you more on this.
Liverpool Occupy The Top Spot
There was once again a new leader at the top of the Premier League table as Liverpool battled past Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. It was a good moment for Jurgen Klopp’s team as Arsenal had lost earlier allowing them to take over at the summit.
Liverpool sit a point ahead of Arsenal and just 2 ahead of 3rd placed Aston Villa. Liverpool have the goal threat of Mo Salah up front and the return to form of Virgil van Dijk, the team is thriving with the other players around them getting confidence from the senior players. Who knows, maybe Liverpool won’t let the top spot go this time.
Brilliant Aston Villa
It was a brave move by the Aston Villa executive management to go and get Unai Emery after his unfortunate spell with Arsenal. But it has been a splendid time for Emery at Villa Park. He has even created a bit of history with his victory over his former club.
Of course, there could be a lot of factors resulting in this, games are coming thick and fast with their participation in the Europa League and there are injuries to important players like Tariq Lamptey, Ansu Fati, Julio Ensico, and so on. It’s a tough period for them right now and with the packed Christmas schedule, it could get worse before it gets better.
Joao Palhinha Is Vital
The Portuguese defensive midfielder has been one of the most impressive players amongst the teams languishing in mid-table. Joao Palhinha had another great outing at Craven Cottage on Sunday as Fulham beat West Ham United 5-0.
His performance shows his immense value to Marco Silva, it’s his ingenuity that’s helped Fulham move away from the relegation zone and into a more stable and safe position in the top half of the table. If there is one player Fulham can ill afford to lose right now, it is a 28-year-old midfielder.
Everton Fighting Back
Everton beat a hapless Chelsea to move away from the bottom 3 with a 4-point buffer between them in 17th place and Luton Town who are in 18th position. This comes as a huge relief for Sean Dyche’s side who found themselves in the bottom 3 after a 10-point deduction for breaching financial regulations.
Everton will be determined to build on their win against the struggling Chelsea side and get enough points to steer them to a safer position on the league table. The Toffees have good momentum at the moment.
Have Brighton Hit A Rough Patch?
There have been some credible draws and perhaps that has papered over the fact that Brighton have won only 2 of their last 10 Premier League games. Roberto de Zerbi’s troops have dropped significantly since their bright start to the season.
