Match: Man Utd vs Man City
When: Sunday, 06 April 2025, 17:30
Where: Old Trafford
Man Utd Form
United saw a seven-match unbeaten run ended in midweek. Despite just four defeats in 18 fixtures, their league form is dire. Their last 17 EPL fixtures have yielded just 18 points with nine defeats. At Old Trafford, there have been five league losses in the last eight games at home.
After drawing 1-1 and then losing on penalties vs Fulham in the FA Cup, they drew 1-1 at Real Sociedad in the Europa League. A 1-1 draw with Arsenal and a 4-1 second-leg win over Real Sociedad hinted at real progress. They won 3-0 at Leicester before losing their last match 1-0 at Nottingham Forest. They outshot Forest 23-8 in that defeat.
Man Utd Team News
Ruben Amorim is without two key long-term injury victims in Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo. Luke Shaw is not quite ready to return whilst Ayden Heaven is also injured in defence.
Kobbie Mainoo could return to the squad for this match. Mason Mount is also fit again and featured in the last match. Harry Maguire is pushing for a recall in defence for this one.
Man Utd Motivation
United will play quite defensively in this match and look to hit City on the break. That approach led to a late win in the reverse fixture.
A draw would not be a disaster. Amorim will want to avoid injuries ahead of a key Europa League quarter-final but he can’t afford another home league defeat here.
Man City Form
City have lost five of their last eleven matches in all competitions. It’s three defeats in seven in the league, beginning with a poor 5-1 loss at Arsenal. They were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid after a 6-4 aggregate loss including 3-1 in Spain in the second leg.
A 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool was followed by two wins, 1-0 at Tottenham and 3-1 at Plymouth in the FA Cup. Despite having 69% possession, they lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest and drew 2-2 with Brighton having led twice before beating Bournemouth in the FA Cup (2-1 away). In midweek, they beat Leicester 2-0 at home with just two shots allowed.
Man City Team News
Pep Guardiola made six changes to his XI in midweek, changing the entire front four. Rodri is still out injured and all of Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones will play no part.
Oscar Bobb is available again but Erling Haaland is out for the next six weeks with an ankle injury. Omar Marmoush could lead the line here.
Man City Motivation
City need to win as they look for a top-five finish to qualify for the Champions League.
The league is the top priority over the FA Cup. They will look to dominate Man Utd whilst guarding against fast breaks.
