Match: Chelsea v Leicester
When: Sunday, 09 March 2025, 16:00
Where: Stamford Bridge
Chelsea Form
Chelsea have strung together three straight league wins at home. Despite winning just four of their last 13 matches in all competitions, they still somehow sit fifth in the table. A five-match winless spell in the league was ended by a 3-1 home victory over Wolves. A 3-1 defeat followed at Man City.
After coming from behind to beat West Ham 2-1, they lost three straight away matches. A 2-1 FA Cup loss at Brighton was followed by a 3-0 league hammering at the Seagulls. A 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa was followed by a morale-boosting 4-0 home win over bottom-placed Southampton. On Thursday, they travel to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the Europa League.
Chelsea Team News
Enzo Maresca has defenders Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah available after injury. Romeo Lavia is back in training but this match may come too soon.
Filip Jörgensen is set to play in goal whilst Pedro Neto is expected to start as the central striker. Reece James could be left out after travelling to Copenhagen on Thursday whilst forward Nicolas Jackson is injured.
Chelsea Motivation
The Blues are not playing well right now but they’re finding a way to win matches at home.
Anything less than three points would be a dire result here. Enzo Maresca will be highly motivated to beat his former club.
Leicester Form
The Foxes are 19th in the Premier League table with 11 matches to play. They are five points off Wolves with an inferior goal difference. After winning his first match in charge, coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy have also managed four points from the next 13 rounds of league action (11 losses).
After seven straight losses, they pulled off a shock 2-1 win from behind at Tottenham. The result proved a false dawn as four defeats to zero have followed. They were beaten 4-0 at Everton, 2-0 at home to Arsenal, 4-0 at home by Brentford and 2-0 at West Ham last time out.
Leicester Team News
The Foxes have just two injuries ahead of this match. Winger Issahaku Fatawu is out long-term after knee surgery but right back Ricardo Pereira could return to the fold for this one.
Centre back Harry Souttar and striker Odsonne Edouard should be available for the first time this year. Harry Winks is pushing for a recall in midfield for this match.
Leicester Motivation
With Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City in the next three matches, they need something from this game. Leicester can’t really afford to settle for a draw at Stamford Bridge.
The Foxes may play defensively but they need to find moments to hurt Chelsea on the break.
