Match: Arsenal v Chelsea
When: Sunday, 16 March 2025, 15:30
Where: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal Form
The Gunners have seen their title challenge fade away in recent weeks. Since beating Man City 5-1 at home, they’ve won just two of seven matches in all competitions. A 2-0 loss at Newcastle saw them exit the Carabao Cup before winning 2-0 at Leicester but losing 1-0 at home to West Ham.
A 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest was damaging but they destroyed PSV 7-1 a week later in the Champions League. Last weekend, Arsenal could only draw 1-1 away to Man Utd. With mass resting, they drew 2-2 at home to PSV on Wednesday to progress 9-3 on aggregate to the quarter-finals.
Arsenal Team News
Mikel Arteta is still without Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka up front. Raheem Sterling is ineligible against his parent club.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is injured. The likes of William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard will all return to the XI. Mikel Merino is set to play as a makeshift striker once again.
Arsenal Motivation
Arsenal rested players in midweek with an eye on this one. They will go all out to win and keep their very meagre title hopes alive.
The Gunners lack attacking bodies and weapons right now. A focus on a clean sheet and using set-pieces could be seen.
Chelsea Form
The Blues have picked up some crucial home wins in the league of late but their away form is woeful. They lost 2-1 at Brighton in the FA Cup and 3-0 away vs the Seagulls in the league. Another loss followed on the road as they were beaten 2-1 at Aston Villa.
A 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge vs Southampton made it three straight home league victories. They went to Denmark and beat FC Copenhagen 2-1 before a 1-0 home victory over Leicester as they outshot the Foxes 20-3. A dire display on Thursday was still enough to beat FC Copenhagen 1-0 in the second leg as the Blues did not manage a single shot in the first half.
Chelsea Team News
Enzo Maresca did a lot of rotating on Thursday. Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana will return to the XI and Reece James could start. Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto and Nicolas Jackson are set to be out injured.
Cole Palmer will start in support of Pedro Neto. Romeo Lavia is available but Reece James may be used in midfield alongside Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea Motivation
The Blues are struggling on the road and would take a point here before the FIFA break.
Maresca’s side will look to be solid and to hit Neto on the break with his pace.
