Arsenal v Brighton – Preview, Predictions, and Best Bets

Arsenal face Brighton in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Arsenal v Brighton

Arsenal face Brighton in the English Premier League on Sunday. The Gunners’ loss last weekend has seen them lose top spot in the table. The Seagulls sit eighth after a mighty 61 goals in their 16 matches this season (33 scored, 28 conceded). Brighton won 3-0 in May when the sides last met.

Arsenal Form

The Gunners suffered successive losses in early November, crashing out of the Carabao Cup at West Ham (3-1) and losing 1-0 in the league at Newcastle. There was a very strong response to those losses with six wins on the spin. They scored late to win 1-0 at Brentford and then put six past Lens a home.

After a 2-1 home win over Wolves, Arsenal have a scare at Luton. They need a last-gasp goal from Declan Rice to win 4-3 at Kenilworth Road. On Saturday, Arsenal conceded early in a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa. They created several chances but lacked ruthlessness. In midweek, Arsenal traveled to PSV for a dead rubber match in the Champions League.

Arsenal Team News

Jurrien Timber is out long-term, and Mikel Arteta is without three midfielders Thomas Partey, Fabio Vieira, and Emile Smith Rowe. It could be the same XI that played at Villa Park in this one.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is injured at right back so Ben White will continue. Jakub Kiwior is pushing for a start at left-back for his defensive nous. Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli struggled at Aston Villa but should keep their spots.

Arsenal Motivation

Arsenal needs a win. This match has their full focus as they look to bounce back from the defeat at Villa Park.

A draw would feel like a defeat and Arteta will throw on extra attackers to try to change the full three points, if needed.

Brighton Form

Brighton sits eighth in the Premier League table. Only five teams have leaked more than their 28 goals conceded. Since losing 2-1 at Man City in the league in October, they’ve played seven league matches with two wins, four draws and one loss. After three 1-1 draws in a row in the league, they won 3-2 at Nottingham Forest.

A 3-2 loss at ten-man Chelsea followed before beating Brentford 2-1 last midweek and then drawing 1-1 yet again at home with Bournemouth last weekend. Meanwhile, they won three Europa League matches in a row prior to facing Marseille at home on Thursday with the top spot up for grabs.

Brighton Team News

De Zerbi has plenty of injuries. With only three genuine fullbacks in his squad, two are injured Pervis Estupinan and Tariq Lamptey. Joel Veltman will cover on one side with a midfield playing in the other fullback role, most likely Pascal Gross or James Milner. Igor is another option to move to left-back back considering he is left-footed.

Danny Welbeck, Solly March, Ansu Fati and Julio Enciso are all injured up front. There has been plenty of rotation of late so we could see Adam Lallana as the number ten and Facundo Buonanotte has been impressive when selected on the right wing.

Brighton Motivation

Nothing will change in Brighton’s usual approach. They will attack the Gunners and try to dominate.

De Zerbi will play for a win in this match, but a draw would also be a strong result. Having played vs Marseille on Thursday, fatigue is a factor.

Key Stats

Arsenal have lost 3 of their last 4 home matches vs Brighton (all competitions).

Arsenal have won 6 and drawn 2 of their 8 home EPL matches this term

Brighton have won 3 and lost 3 of their 7 away EPL matches this season

Brighton’s last 7 league matches have seen 4 draws (all 1-1) with only 1 defeat

This match comes hot on the heels of European action for both sides. Considering Arsenal can rest players vs PSV and Brighton have a must-win match a day later vs Marseille, the Gunners should be fresher. Expect both sides to score but Arsenal to bounce back from the Villa setback.

Best Bet: Arsenal win and both score at 3.05

Alternative Bet: Over 3.5 goals at 2.40
