Dortmund vs Barcelona – Preview, Predictions and Best Bets

Dortmund host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Dortmund vs Barcelona

Dortmund host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday. BVB are 4-0 down from the first leg and have little chance of overturning the deficit. Barcelona are 24 matches unbeaten with 74 goals scored during that streak.

Match: Dortmund vs Barcelona
When: Tuesday, 15 April 2025, 21:00
Where: Signal Iduna Park

Dortmund Form

Since employing Niko Kovac to replace Nuri Sahin, Dortmund have played 14 matches under their new coach. He has overseen just six wins with five defeats. A 2-1 win in Lille in the round of 16 saw them progress 3-2 on aggregate. A 2-0 at RB Leipzig followed in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund rallied to produce two wins before the first leg. They beat Mainz 3-1 at home and won 4-1 at Freiburg. In the first leg a week ago, Barcelona destroyed BVB 4-0. They allowed 3.69 xG despite having 13 shots of their own. On Saturday, they drew 2-2 away at Bayern Munich.

Dortmund Team News

Dortmund are without both Marcel Sabitzer due to a knee injury and Nico Schlotterbeck due to a knee problem. Niklas Sule is available again and so is left back Ramy Bensebaini.

Niko Kovac switched to a back three for the trip to Bayern Munich and may continue with that shape in this match. Karim Adeyemi will hope for a recall up front next to Serhou Guirassy.

Dortmund Motivation

There is little chance of coming back from 4-0 down but Dortmund have pride to play for.

Kovac can’t afford another defeat and even a good performance and a home draw would be acceptable here.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona are flying in 2025. Overall, their last 24 matches have seen 20 wins and four draws. They beat Benfica 4-2 on aggregate in the last round before a 4-2 win at Atletico Madrid in La Liga. A 3-0 win over Osasuna and a 4-1 victory versus Girona followed.

Hansi Flick’s side continued their incredible consistency by winning 1-0 at Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals second leg to reach the final. A surprise 1-1 home draw vs Real Betis preceded the first leg versus Dortmund. A 4-0 home win should see them into the semi-finals. On Saturday, they won 1-0 at Leganes to keep a four-point lead at the La Liga summit.

Barcelona Team News

Marc-andre Ter Stegen is still out injured in goal whilst Marc Bernal and Marc Cassado are both ruled out. Dani Olmo is nearing a return to action.

Saturday’s match saw Frenkie De Jong, Gavi and Pau Cubarsi all feature from the bench. The trio are pushing to start this match. Alejandro Balde was injured in that match so we could see Gerard Martin or even Ronald Araujo covering at left back here.

 Barcelona Motivation

Hansi Flick’s side are very attacking and that won’t change in Germany. They will look to get numbers forward.

The best XI is set to be selected and Barcelona will want to win this second leg. They won’t be satisfied with a narrow defeat or dull draw.
