10 Matches to Punt on for your Acca
Last week proved to be very profitable as all 10 of our matches were tipped correctly in some way or the other. Consistency is key, not only in the game of football, but in the punting world as well. It’s our job to ensure that you’re on the right track to get the ultimate betting slip for the weekend, so without further ado, let’s get straight into it.
Saturday’s Premier League clash between Leicester City and Manchester City should prove to be a thrilling one with both sides eager to close the gap (to something respectable) on Liverpool. It remains to be seen how serious Pep Guardiola’s side will take each game after being slapped with a two-year UEFA ban, so no matter how high up the table they finish, the English champions will not qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. This tie also comes a few days before their blockbuster encounter against Real Madrid.

Domestically, it hasn’t been the best season for Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid. But they’ve shown glimpses of what they’re all about this season, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, where they boast a 1-0 lead over Liverpool going into the second leg. Villarreal have found some form in recent weeks, enduring a four-game unbeaten run, winning three times. The Yellow Submarine did draw their last away game, though, sharing the spoils at Valladolid.

Two teams with contrasting fortunes do battle in the German Bundesliga as 17th-placed Werder Bremen host third-placed Borussia Dortmund. Werder Bremen have won just once at home all season and have lost four matches on the trot. Dortmund, on the other hand, have won four of their last five league ties and are the highest-scoring team in the division, netting 63 times. This one could be another goal fest.

Since being dumped out of the CAF Confederations Cup earlier this year, Bidvest Wits have turned their attentions to domestic action as Gavin Hunt’s charges look to keep up the pressure at the top of the Absa Premiership, while a decent cup run will set their season back on track. After claiming back-to-back victories over Baroka and Highlands Park, punters can now feel safe backing the Clever Boys again. Chippa United defeated TS Galaxy 3-0 in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup but are winless in five Absa Premiership matches, losing the last three in a row.
Braga have been excellent since the start of the year and will have a strong chance of closing the gap at the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga when they host Vitoria Setubal. Braga are unbeaten in their last seven league matches, winning six times – drawing once in a game that they led 2-0, before receiving a red card and drawing the tie 2-2. In that superb run of results, Braga have beaten FC Porto and Benfica away from home. Vitoria Setubal are without a victory in their last three games, losing twice.

After a somewhat disappointing start to their season, Feyenoord have picked up in recent months and have proven to be many punters’ go-to team across Europe. The hosts are unbeaten in their last 11 league games, winning the last six matches, scoring a minimum of three goals in their last four encounters. Fortuna Sittard are yet to register their first win away from home this season, failing to grab a victory under their belt in 11 attempts.

Lille will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host Toulouse in the French Ligue 1. The hosts have a superb record on home soil, winning nine of their 13 matches, losing twice – against the top two teams in the league, PSG and Marseille. Toulouse have been dreadful and sit rock bottom in the standings. They’ve won just three times in 25 games with none of those victories coming away from home. Toulouse have also failed to score in their last five league ties.

Sunday’s Italian Serie A encounter between Hellas Verona and Cagliari should be an interesting one as both sides come into this one in complete opposite form. Verona are unbeaten across all competitions since the start of the year – the only team in Italy to boast that record. On the other hand, Cagliari are without a victory in the league since early December, 10 games ago. Verona are in touching distance of the UEFA spots in the league table and a win over their struggling opponents will bring them closer to their targets.

After a superb run of form in the league, AEK Athens will be hoping for more of the same, enduring a six-game unbeaten run in Greece, winning five times in that time. At home, AEK Athens have also lost just once all season. OFI Kreta have won just once in their last five league ties and have one of the worst away records in the division, losing eight of their 12 encounters.

Two of the biggest clubs in Africa meet in the Cairo derby this coming Monday as the Egyptian Premier League comes down to its business end. Al Ahly have been perfect this season, boasting a 100% record in the league, winning all 15 of their games played. Zamalek, in their 15 encounters, have won just nine times, which is proving to be costly in their title pursuit with Patrice Carteron’s side 14 points off Al Ahly. This is arguably the biggest derby in African football and looking at Al Ahly’s form, it’s extremely difficult to back against them.
